We didn't stay at the Locanda San Barnaba, but they came to our aid. We had just arrived in Venice, and were late, very late, to meet someone waiting for us. We'd gotten off at some distance and had no map, no wifi, no cell service. Passing the Locanda, I looked in, and just knew we'd find a helpful person...

Wonderful location and experience. Sensing Venice in a 16th century house turned to a boutique hotel. Very nice and warm atmosphere. All the attractions are closeby. The hotel is very close to boat station. The staff was very friendly. At my next visit, I would definitely stay here again.

Stayed here for 3 nights with my wife and 2 daughters. We loved it! It is a 15th century palace with the period frescos still present. Hotel was super comfortable. Our room was large with a 2nd floor balcony that has the beds for our kids - it was their own little club house...:). Breakfast was very tasty and kid...

This is the second time we have stayed here and we will certainly be back. This family run hotel is small but elegant. We stayed in a standard double room overlooking the garden which was nicely decorated with excellent air conditioning which coped with the intense heat and humidity. The salone on the first floor is beautifully decorated and there...

We usually stay in B&Bs, rather than hotels. This small hotel is more like a B&B than a hotel. Our group of four adults arrived by private water taxi. What an amazing way to enter Venice!! The taxi took us down the Grand Canal. The cost was 110 euros bought at the airport. A few days later we had the...

Stayed 2 nights at Locanda San Barnaba and Roberto and his staff exceeded all my expectations !! Just a short walk from the Ca' Rezzonico Valoretto stop. We were greeted with a smile and some cold water in the garden while our bags were carried upstairs to our room. It's such a beautiful building with clean spacious rooms and sitting...

Based on a lot of research, we decided to book 5 nights at the Hotel San Barnaba. What a wonderful choice. It's very easy to get to from the train station, just take the #1 vaporetto to Ca' Rezzonico and it's a short walk without crossing any bridges. The ground floor has the lobby, dock to a small canal (for...

Fantastic return trip at this lovely hotel. I had travelled with a group of friends last time I stayed here. This time I travelled with my slightly older parents. But for both trips it was perfect. We stayed on the ground floor as mobility was a little bit of an issue- Mom had a sports injury!! I was worried about...

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighborhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighborhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighborhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbors exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Experience a warm welcome in a 16th century Palace, where the enchantment and magic of Venice are complemented by the modern conveniences required by even the most exacting clientele. An architecturally sensitive restoration has brought back to life serene splendor of the era of which this building is an admirable example. Each of the fourteen rooms has a story to tell: the lover's nest, the philosopher's refuge, the artist' s studio, the playwright' s chamber, where echoes of his muse still linger. The "Locanda San Barnaba" is located in the center of the city, between Accademia Gallery, Piazza San Marco and Rialto Bridge, easy to reach from Piazzale Roma or "Santa Lucia" Railway Station by Vaporetto n° 1 (Ca' Rezzonico Stop). ... more   less
