The location is perfect - the price is affordable - the hotel is clean - the staff - Vito, Patricio, were great. If you expect to have a comfy bed - you may be a little disappointed - the rooms are small but it's Europe so it's expected - the breakfast is continental but serves the purpose - overall I... More

This hotel was a mix of good and bad. The room was small although the bathroom was large. The location was good but everything was overpriced as a result. The staff were pretty unhelpful and uninterested. I wouldn't stay here again.....it was just ok.

Hotel San Gallo is just a few minutes walk from St Mark's Square and, although fairly basic, it's clean and comfortable and the staff are very helpful. Breakfast is served on the roof terrace which is nice. A few stairs to climb to enter the reception but it's only one floor.

The Hotel is in the perfect location just 50 yards from the world-famous San Marco. Our room was very lavishly decorated in true Venetian style which made for an impressive first impression. The breakfast was continental but plentiful, filling up the family until lunch and it was on the roof-top terrace which was a great feature. We didn't use it... More

We took a family trip to Venice and chose the San Gallo based on a combination of TripAdvisor ratings, price and location. The first thing I would point out is that the hotel can only be reached from a long flight of stairs and there is no lift. Therefore, if access is important to your situation, this probably isn't the... More

We found the reception staff really hospitable and helpful with the various touristy questions we had about Venice. The room is stunning, with a Venetian flair, but I did feel that the beds were a little "hard", but my other travel companions had no complaints. Decent breakfast buffet. The fact that this hotel is located in Rialto, close to the... More

The hotel is perfectly situated as it is really close to everything but is outdated and the reception area made me feel claustrophobic as the ceilings were so low. The room was clean but very stuffy with the extra single bed which was placed there for my daughter. Our room overlooked the courtyard area and was quite noisy during the... More

this hotel is ideal for those on a budget but who still want a place near the center, St. Marcus square. Breakfast on the roof is great to be enjoyed on a hot summer morning. Rooms are clean and spacious, well presented and with a classic decoration. Toilets are clean, well kept and functional. the staff was always ready to... More

Hotel is steps away from St. Mark's Square, gondala ride and so much more. Hotel itself is cute, rooms small but the staff sure make up for it. We only spent a night, arriving very early in the morning, hotel held our bags so we could enjoy the day. This hotel does have over 20 steep steps to get to... More

This is an average small venetian hotel, with the "old golden style" decoration, My room was big enough with a window overlooking a "patio". Breakfast was quite ok, staff were welcoming, and there was a small terrace, Overall experience was nice though I am not sure I would come back. It was just another hotel... Location was great! Note: it's... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
