The reviews worried me a bit about this hotel, but the location was great and the price was in our budget, so I took a leap of faith. Thankfully, my faith paid off. This was a quiet, small hotel with rooms that were larger than expected and a staff that offered wonderful suggestions for restaurants and gondola rides. They also... More

We had looked at the reviews before we went and it had a mixed review. In my eyes some off them incorrect. Finding the hotel not as bad as some people make out, walked through the clock tower about 200 yards third turning on the right you see the church you can go either way around it and there it... After a wonderful stay in a budget-mid priced hotel in Milan, I found the Hotel Citta de Milano disappointing. The rooms are small with limited closet space. Our bathroom had a shower that was smaller than a phone booth (remember those?) Our room #335 had an odd lock that required the use of the key from the inside! If you... More

I was worried about coming to the hotel after reading reviews. I informed the hotel about our late arrival in the evening and they said it would be no issue as there was a night porter around - which there was and he was very welcoming to us. He also gave us a map of the city. I can see... More

We stayed in this hotel in May this year. it is very well located even if a little difficult to find. So close to all the sites and a great start point for walking around the city. No bar in the hotel and no coffee making facilities in the room . Breakfast offered everything you would expect. Definitely worth considering

having read previous reviews on this hotel after booking i was very worried our trip would be ruined. Yes the hotel is a little hard to find however with the correct level of pre holiday planning and following the very simply how to find us guide on the hotel website this wasn't an issue. We arrived at the hotel at... More

The hotel is not 3 stars. We had a superior double room but we could not spend much time in the room because : a. the ambiance is very dull. Room decoration is very glum and the rooms not bright b. there is no insulation. You could here everything form adjoining rooms or the rooms on next floor. You could... More

Hotel was good, but the most difficult to find. We asked for a 5am call but woke ourselves and when we went downstairs the door was locked no staff around, we had to try and unlock the door and then a lady came out half asleep, we said she was supposed to call us at 5am. No explanation given.

Hotel is very small. When we arrived at the hotel, the gate was locked and nobody was there to greet us. We got the door opened with the help of some existing guests. After 15 minutes the receptionist came. There was no AC even when it was too hot. Attitude of the person at reception was not at all heartwarming.... More

Dont go, you will be played. We booked the hotel via hotels.com at 12md and we arrived at 4pm... it was super hard to find, even with google maps. Once we did, the guy said our room was "outside" and asked us to follow him and we did, for about 100mts to another hotel, the Antica Panada. They did the... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
