Once visited, this central hotel in Venice will be re-visited again and again by people who have stayed here. I personally know some of them. Why book this place you may ask? Here we go: It is a family run business with the most friendly and helpful staff, it is in the centre of the 'action' and is just minutes... More

Hotel Fontana was lovely and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. Our room was very classic and spacious, with a small but perfectly functional bath. We loved the windows overlooking the street and found we could close the shutters when we wanted quiet. Loved the ambiance of the street view and enjoyed a glass of wine (or maybe 2) soaking it... Wehn I checked in i had read reviews about room 3 being noisy. Well to be honest it was great. Yes you have to keep the shutters closed but what do you expect as you are above the hustle and bustle of a vibrant Venice street and to be honest its fantastic. Bed was great, showers clean and hot water... More

It was a short walk from the vaporetto and easy to find. My cosy room was at the back, quiet, has a balcony with a lovely view of the the church behind. The shower was a bit small but it was not a major problem for me. The hotel has a nice homely feeling. It was close by to San... More

Beware, especially if you're a first time visitor. This place is basically controlled by the owners: You can't eat in the dining area or they'll rip your head off. Bathroom/shower is abysmal! Imagine taking a shower in a 4'x4.5' area with the curtain constantly sticking to you (I'm 5'9" 190lbs). Then imagine the water trickling out of the shower and... More

Really I don't know where to start from but looking at your customer's profile it's clear you had a very bad Italian trip: a bad hotel in Rome, a bad hotel in Florence, a bad hotel in Venice. As Italian, I'm really sorry about that and, as hotelier, even more. We (my family and staff) try our best to make... More

My husband and I arrived in Venice after a cruise and docked REALLY early in the morning-- long before check in. After arriving at the hotel, which is just a short walk from the vaporetto (and no stairs, which matters when you are wheeling heavy luggage), the staff let us store our suitcases while we explored the city. Our room... More

Hi, please read my review it is a long story short. As we say in English. We booked from London with last minute.com a room in a yacht thinking to have a new experience rather than same hotels. The yacht was old dirty and horrible, we couldn't stay even for few hours, we decided to look for an alternative as... More

Did a thorough search for our 3 night stay location. 1. Three minute walk from water taxi--no steps/no bridge to cross 2. Breakfast 3. Airconditioned 4. Private bath (it was small) 5. Elevator 6. Big plus a. Founder: Granma Lina - age 94 - visited the lobby - always so friendly - didn't realize we do not speak Italian.... b.... More

Unfortunately I was one of the 137 thousand people who got stuffed by a well known holiday company. I did not realise until two days before we were flying. I telephoned the hotel and sadly they confirmed my booking has been cancelled by the travel company who had failed to inform me. Gabriella who works at the hotel was brilliant.... More

The hotel was conveniently located near the plaza and the Alaguana water taxi from the airport. The room was clean and met all expectations. The manager - Gabrielle - was excellent. He was very helpful with all requests and made our stay very pleasant.

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
