I chose this hotel based on TripAdvisor reviews, and was not disappointed. It's a great central location, close to a vaporetto stop and to St Mark's. Breakfast was included in the cost, and was a good way to start the day. The staff were friendly and helpful.

My mom and I stayed at Hotel Fontana in Venice in March 2016. We had a wonderful time - the owner was so kind, and we have many lovely conversations with him. The room was great, with a nice little outdoor space that we could use. The downstairs lounge was perfect for a quick afternoon tea before heading back into... More

We stayed for one night in Venice and the room was very tidy and spacious. The price was good and the service was very personal. I would definitely recommend the location as the spot it is in Castello is right near the main square and lots of the action

I recently stayed at this lovely hotel with my family from 29 August to 1st September. Our hosts were very friendly and helpful and made us feel welcomed and never tired of our endless questions! The hotel is excellently located to make the most of sightseeing, accessible to water taxis and gondolas and there are several restaurants and cafes nearby.... More

I had to write because Gaybrielli has gone above and beyond with service. He upgraded our room and let us check in early. He was very knowledgeable on things to do and where to eat. He was professional and friendly. We were fortunate that he was so eager to assist us and honest about dos and don't see in the... More

I had chosen this hotel as it has such good reviews on here. I was a little disappointed as although I enjoyed our stay there were some things that could have definitely been improved. The room was standard but the bathroom door wouldn't close. The shower wouldn't stay up and the bath had a big chunk out of it that was... More

We stayed in room 12 which has a terrace over a courtyard. It was a great place to relax each evening after a busy day of touring. The staff gave us great advice for touring the area. The breakfast was excellent with plenty food and selection. The hotel is conveniently located near St. Marks, a water bus stop, and many... More

Once visited, this central hotel in Venice will be re-visited again and again by people who have stayed here. I personally know some of them. Why book this place you may ask? Here we go: It is a family run business with the most friendly and helpful staff, it is in the centre of the 'action' and is just minutes... More

Hotel Fontana was lovely and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. Our room was very classic and spacious, with a small but perfectly functional bath. We loved the windows overlooking the street and found we could close the shutters when we wanted quiet. Loved the ambiance of the street view and enjoyed a glass of wine (or maybe 2) soaking it... Wehn I checked in i had read reviews about room 3 being noisy. Well to be honest it was great. Yes you have to keep the shutters closed but what do you expect as you are above the hustle and bustle of a vibrant Venice street and to be honest its fantastic. Bed was great, showers clean and hot water... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
