We stayed for two days (July 30 - 31) before a cruise. The hotel was in a great location, minutes from San Marco square right in the middle of good shopping and restaurants. I was concerned seeing other reviews about unfriendly staff and I was...More
We picked this hotel for three reasons:
1. Location off a waterway - this makes it convenient and easy to arrive at its doorstep with heavy luggage especially after a cruise, as well as to depart for the airport in a water taxi.
For what we paid for, I expected a lot more from the Violino d'oro. It does have an excellent location and the rooms are comfortable, but they need refurbishing. Breakfast was pretty bad, not a lot of choice and nothing tasty to eat. Basically, it...More

We arrived in Venice without any hotel reservations. After hopping off the water taxi at San Marcus piazza, we set out to find a reasonably priced, well situated hotel. Hotel Violin was our third stop and as in the 3 Bears "just right". We paid...More

The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and
Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
We booked a really cheap room on the 2nd floor (the triple room) and right outside of our room was a small, standing room only terrace with doors, a table and chair set (set just inside the doors/terrace). We drank prosecco... More
We booked a really cheap room on the 2nd floor (the triple room) and right outside of our room was a small, standing room only terrace with doors, a table and chair set (set just inside the doors/terrace). We drank prosecco and watched the gondolas from the terrace often!
