5 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

Stayed here July 2016. The location is absolutely spot on, just 3 minutes walk from St Marks Square and 3 minutes to either of two vaporetto stops - Giglio (line 1) or San Marco Valaresso (line 1 and 2). We (wife and I) arrived in Venice 4pm Tuesday afternoon, bought a 24hr tourist travelcard from the office in the airport... More

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights of our Honeymoon. We paid a bit extra for the large balcony suite and it truly made the hotel stay! The room was a good size, as was the bathroom, but a little dated. There were large doors that opened to the enormous balcony. The balcony had a table and chairs... More

It must be one of the best locations in Venice. We loved being able to walk the narrow streets straight outside the hotel with the canal and little bridge right at the door step. The hotel itself is good, we did miss not having tea and coffee facility in the room, its only a small thing but the room just... More

My husband and I were both so pleased with our stay at Hotel Violino d'Oro. It's a short walk to St. Mark's Square and to the water taxi/bus stop. We easily took the water bus (Alilaguna) to/from Marco Polo airport. The hotel itself was elegant and the staff was friendly. We only encountered a few other guests, and it felt... More

We stayed here for the last 2 nights. The location can't be beat - 5 min walk from the ferry and St. Marks square. Gondola ride when you step out of the hotel. Family room was clean, spacious (by European standards) and had natural light. Would have rated it as 5 stars except that my husband found a small bug... More

Overall this hotel was a good choice specifically for its location. You can easily walk to all the main sights in less than 15 minutes. The room itself was adequate. Nothing fancy but spacious enough for a 3 night stay. The bathroom was larger than we anticipated. The breakfast was included and was fine but nothing extraordinary. We did hear... More

We were here three nights, paid extra for the suite with a balcony since the price difference was negligible. The room was huge as was the balcony. It was nice to sit out on the balcony and watch the gondoliers working. Downside of being right at a gondolier station was noise but it didn't bother us much. The carpet and... More

Staff was friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Great location near vaporetto stops and San Marco Square. Breakfasts had good food selection. Safe available for valuables, but not in room..

This hotel is located very close to San Marco square and the vaporetto stop. Our room was clean but small. The shower was really small. We had a patio between our rooms that added a nice outside sitting place. The breakfast was really good. The best thing about this hotel is the location.

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
