We loved our stay at the Violino. It was a short walk to St. Mark's square and right beside a gondola stop. We were able to take the water bus from the train station to St. Marco stop & walk to the hotel in minutes with only 2 little bridges to drag our luggage over. Real atmosphere. Our rooms were...

We can't say enough about this hotel. We found this hotel via Trip Advisor so wanted to make sure we shared our experience here, as well. We would 100% stay here again. This was a true gem! The location could not have been better. It is located on a picturesque canal with a gondola stop. (You can ride the gondola...

A stones throw away from Saint Mark's Square, the location was perfect. We were lucky that our room was not directly outside the canal so we were spared the noise from the gondoliers. The hotel staff were very helpful and courteous. The included breakfast buffet was substantial with a cappuccino machine (yeah!). I thought that our air conditioner was broken...

Before arriving, the staff were very helpful with easy to follow instructions on how to get to the hotel from the Train station. A waterbus did an easy and least expensive job taking me to the San Marco Vallaresso pier which was an easy 5 minute walk to this charming Hotel. The Hotel is right beside a Gondola station, adding...

We were here for 4 nights. The positives: the location, the breakfast and the size of our bathroom. The negatives: common areas so hot we were sweating, staff that really did not interact with us at all, the noise from the gondoliers below, and lots of mosquitos in our room. The breakfast room was SO hot we didn't linger. While...

I can't review based on price/value because we booked through a company, so I do not know the price. The hotel staff were very helpful and the breakfast was nice (loved the cappuccino machine!) But the room was not pleasant. We had a queen size bed with the headboard against one wall. On one side of the bed there was...

Very nice smaller hotel with great canal view rooms. Right next to a gondola stop. It was a great addition to our Venice experience. I could step out of the shower and hear accordions and singers going by in gondolas in the canal below. Wonderful place to stay in Venice.

Stayed here for two nights of our honeymoon. Reserved the superior room which had a great big balcony with a view of the canal. Also got a complementary bottle of prosecco in our room when we arrived. Breakfast was included and was delicious. Service and attention from the staff was great as well. Perfect location. Gondola service just outside the...

I booked this hotel expecting it to be shabby but OK for the price. I was really pleasantly suprised by the entire stay. The hotel is in a great location, minutes from the main square and in a good location to access the student area of town with good restaurants and bars. The canal, gondolas and beautiful church outside make...

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
