I think it is actually more then 3 stars. The location is amazing: centeral, beautiful surroundings. When you just arrive to the city, some hotels can be very difficult to find, and that's annoying when you are tired and with luggage. This is not the case with that hotel. Easy access from anywhere. The room was so clean, cozy and... More

We would recommend Hotel Violino d'Oro to anyone. The location was close to San Marco and ferries stop. It was very close to lots of high-end shops and there's a gondola station right outside. Breakfast was very good and the staff was very helpful. We stayed in a quadruple room and it was a little dated. The bathroom was a... More

LOVED this place. Centrally located so you can walk to all major attractions and comes with free breakfast buffet! A canal gondola vendor is located right outside. i Ask for a high room with a balcony. There are free mini-fridges in each room that the staff restocks daily with water, soda and fruit drinks.

I rate this "outstanding" because, while my room was small, it was more than adequate, clean, helpful and friendly 24-hour staff, great breakfast, excellent housekeeper service and it so close to St. Marks's Square and water bus stops #1 and #2. While I as there, the hotel had started a renovation on the top floors working down but I was... More

We really enjoyed out stay at Hotel Violino d'Oro and would recommend it to anyone. The location was nice and close to San Marco and easy to walk to from the San Marco ferry stop. It was very close to lots of high quality shopping and would be very good for anyone particularly interested in shopping in Venice. The Ponte... More

My daughter and I visited here in Oct 15 as part of her 18th birthday celebrations. Wonderful little hotel in an incredible location. Situated where it is, made our morning strolls or late evening walk homes a joy, as we saw St Marco Square in every light. We were fortunate enough to overlook the canal and having the gondola stop... More

Having read some disparaging reviews about this hotel, my husband and I were pleasantly surprised We arrived to find we had been upgraded to a canal view room and it has everything we needed for a 3 night stay (including a very comfortable bed!) Yes, there were a few cracks on the bathroom ceiling and the shower was hardly a... More

My husband and I had a reservation for two nights at this hotel: November 12 and 13. We were flying from Toronto to Venice, with a connecting flight in Frankfort. On our arrival in Frankfort, we realized that our passports were no longer with us. Long story short, we had to go instead to the Canadian embassy in Düsseldorf to... More

Dear Sirs, First of all we are extremely sorry for what happened with your passports and hope you managed to resolve the problem. We remember you called the same day of arrival (12 November) and told us that you would not be able to come that day and asked us to keep the room for you for the next day,... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
