Finding a room in Venice that is affordable is fairly tricky. When we first looked we thought it was going to be around 150 euro a night minimum per room or stay in mestre/lido if we wanted cheaper. Then we by luck found hotel ai do Mori, what a find! For 85 euros a night we had a room the... More

This was my second stay at the Ai do Mori - the first being in November 2013. The hotel's big draw is its proximity to the Piazza San Marco - the Piazza is not even a minute's walk down a short alley from the hotel entrance, and the Campanile and Basilica are visible from nearly all the upper floor windows.... Up several flights of very steep and narrow stairs, but, boy, was it worth it. Private terrace backing on to St. Marks Basilica - ok so it was February, but we caught the end of Carnival. Small en-suite room up in the rafters, but all we needed. Friendly helpful staff. Just one street back from St. Mark's Square (which halved... More

I really enjoyed my stay here...in fact I even added on 2 more nights because I was loving Venice. They accommodated me without any problems and were always so nice. Clean room and the shared bathroom was kept clean at all times as well. Great location just steps away from San Marco square. I ate at Rossopomodore just down the... More

Location is what it's all about and this hotel gives you a base literally seconds from Piazza San Marco. If there's a luxury end to 'on a shoestring' travel then this is it. Incredibly well priced considering that you could roll out of bed right onto the Doge's doorstep. Simple, clean, functional. Stay here.

The hotel is located 100m from St. Marcus square, in one of the small but busy alleys. The location is perfect and is about 10min walk from the waterbus stop St. Marcus, so easily doable even with (light) luggage. We came for New Years Eve 2015/16 and were very happy with the hotel. We stayed in the "annex", which is... More

We stayed at Hotel ai do Mori this last July. I wanted an affordable clean place in a good location. A bit of local charm would be good too. Hotel ai do Mori was a good selection for us as truly it is just around the corner from San Marcos Square. There is good security which some might find to... More

Found this small hotel after lengthy hotel searches, and chose it because of the location literally just off San Marco. Surrounded by tons of restauarants and shops, and close to all the major sights - as most of the San Marco area would be - the hotel is small but charming. I had a room in the annex, which has... Stayed one night at the Hotel ai do Mori. We didn't have much time in Venice so we wanted to be in a central location and this property fit the bill. It is located right around the corner from St.Marks Square, a simple vaporetto ride from the airport and a less than 10 minute walk from the dock. It is... More

Previous reviewers have said all there is to say about the great location, minimalist character, and the professionalism of the staff at Hotel ai do Mori. I might add that our room, which was small, had excellent lighting, good storage and surface space, large cupboards and drawers, an updated bathroom, good soundproofing, and a comfortable king size bed. Trumping all... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
