This hotel has a great location, an easy walk from vaporetto stop San Marco Vallaresso (Line 1 or 2) and very close to Piazzo San Marcos. We loved our large room with 2 comfortable stuffed armchairs and windows with shutters overlooking 2 streets. I appreciated all the hooks and shelves in the large bathroom. The views from the breakfast room...

stayed 3 nights recently, the location is perfect, able to walk all around Venice easily. Very good breakfast is the plus side, beds are the downside, awful mattresses. The rooms were clean however, which makes up for its worn out appearance, but after all, we are in Venice. Price was right, so no complaining!!

The only thing worth mentioning is the great location. Everything else, from the terrible room, to the staff (except for breakfast staff), and the hotel itself was not good. The front desk attendant was not helpful in offering any information on the city, which was surprising considering every other hotel in Italy & other parts of Europe automatically offered this...

A great location only minutes from the main attractions. The Hotel is old and does need a major re-fit to lift it out of the 1960's era. Rooms extremely small, poor lighting, broken fittings. At least the sheets and towels were clean and good breakfast options. Struggle to claim as 3 star today.

Obviously as has been mentioned numerous times, the location of the Casanova is excellent, to be honest if it wasn't for this it would struggle to get a 1 star off me! Firstly the good points: Location is 1 min from St Marks square and around 4 mins from water taxi/bus drop off point, you're also in the middle of...

The hotel is in a great location but only just scrapes a 3 star as it is in serious need of a renovation, room was large and not terrible; we were glad it was only for 1 night. For the price and given that it was a stones throw from St. marks square then reasonable enough.

Since we were only staying in Venice for 1 night we wanted to be in the middle of it all - this hotel has an excellent location, only minutes from St. Mark's square. The room was basic, and the bathroom was tiny. However it was very clean. The staff at the front desk was very nice and helpful. Even though...

Be aware that when booking that it is in the correct building of the Bauer and not the adjacent building. That was a disappointment when we checked in. However the room was excellent and well presented. Hotel is in a great location.

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
