Stayed here for just two nights before going on a cruise. I was especially happy with the situation of the hotel which is just off the Piazza San Marco, within easy reach of the vaporettos and best of all no bridges to cross with a suitcase. The room was quite dark and small and of course faced a wall, such a... When we arrived the lady at the reception was the most unwelcoming we have experienced. She very clearly did not want to be there at all. She did not give us any information about the hotel or the local area, just gave us the room key and asked for payment up front. After we checked in I went back down... More

Our welcome to this hotel was absolutely abysmal, the female desk clerk was one of the rudest persons I've had the unfortunate pleasure to meet. The first thing thing was a demand for payment for our stay, not even a hello how are you. She didn't even explain where and when breakfast was, my wife had to ask, at which... More

Decent 3 star hotel, clean, polite staff and very close to st marks sq..breakfast was good too with a variety to choose from but it is served at the hotel in front (2 steps away) I would recommend if you aren't looking for something too fancy this is perfect. The decor is also traditional Venetian style.

The mattress and pillows were like bricks, and I could barely get more than 2 hours of sleep at a time. The water temperature in the shower went from scalding to freezing every 45 seconds. The noise from the upstairs and adjacent neighbors and their bathrooms was like they were lying next to me. The location is excellent, but that's... More

I got a small room and a small bed but I worked very well with room at the top of the hotel. Breakfast was small with only sweet bakery and not good machine coffee, but worked well for my stay. Lovely and helpful staff.

The only good thing about this place is the location and that's about it! We had to deal with the worst unprofessional desk clerk ever. He first gave us a room on the first floor (more like a tomb) no sun at all very dark old and dirty. The shower is broken and it's nearly impossible to shower while standing... More

I arrived in Venice at 1900 after a long day travelling to be told by an unhelpful desk clerk that I did not have a booking with them. I showed him all the paperwork including a voucher for the hotel which I booked through Thomas Cook and he said they had not dealt with Thomas Cook for 2 years. There... More

Definitely this is not a 3 star hotel, maybe a Hostel. Very old, very very dirty, without employs, very noise. When i check-in they ask for me to pay in advance and also the city tax, probably nobody stay there for more than one night. The breakfast which served in an another hotel, was terrible, we tried once and thats... More

Location. Nice hotel. In fact this is my second stay in this hotel. This is the best hotel near San Marco for this money. Totally happy. Management is very friendly. Breakfast could be better, but fresh. Rooms are clean and nice. The best thing of this hotel is location and value for this money. One thing to look for: is... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
