Well preserved palazzo on a quiet courtyard in Castello. Two minute walk to the Grand Canal. Original main rooms but renovated guest rooms. Two star designation but much better than expected. Good sized rooms, well appointed bathrooms, a/c etc. Decor is faux 18th century Venetian but you are in Venice 😄Family operated and helpful staff. Fine for a three day... More

A reasonably priced central hotel with spacious, very clean and comfortable rooms. A lot of value for the money. The hotel is close to San Marco square and close by to lovely restaurants and shops. The staff were friendly and the decor of the reception and eating area were very "Venetian" which gave a lovely atmosphere for our stay in... More

Convenient and hospitable. The rate was fair, the room excellent and best of all, air conditioned when the outside temp was 90 plus. The breakfast was included and was excellent. Food is available at the restaurant across the courtyard.

Authentic little hotel in a perfect location, ask for a room with a view its spectacular. Nice furnishings throughout the Hotel and a beautiful little courtyard garden and outside chill out room. Bedroom was a little less appealing than the rest of the hotel but nevertheless still really good. Breakfast was not included which was a shame as we thought... More

When you travel to Italy, you seek the "good old": the sights, the history, the ambiance. But when you stay at Hotel La Residenza, you get a lot of the "bad old": an old creaky mattress, tired flat little pillows, and a daily fight with management to please not turn off electricity to your air conditioning unit while you are... This is a genuine old venetian palace, which retains many original features but unfortunately the original old rooms have been divided up into quite small rooms with little character However, the main piano mobile floor is splendid Reception staff mostly helpful, although at time a bit grudging Breakfast is very basic - slightly dry croissants and just about acceptable coffee... When you look outside the window of La Residenza you'll know for sure that Venice is not Disneyland but a normal town with normal people living in it - children playing football and their grandparents and friends sitting in the shadow of the tree enjoying the shade (or the sunshine). Much appreciated being in a neighbourhood that felt so different... More

We saw this hotel back in 1992 and told ourselves that we would stay there one day. This year we did. It did not disappoint! La Residenza is located in a very old palace on the Campo Bandiera e Moro, opposite the church where Vivaldi was baptised. The salon that doubles as breakfast room is on of the piano nobile,... This well priced hotel is in a good central position for visiting the principal sites of Venice. From Riva dei Schiavoni you walk up a Calle and then you are there - vaporetto stop either Arsenale or San Zaccaria, which the Alilaguna from the airport stops at as well as the standard vaporettos. The rooms are reasonably sized, with a good... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
