Bring your mosquito repellent if you are going when these critters are still alive. We were bitten nightly by the invasion of these mosquitoes. The breakfast is on the low end both for the type and freshness of food and presentation. I wanted another espresso and they told me they would bill me 2 euro for this! Apparently one shot... More

Family of 4 travelling Europe June/July 07 spent 3 nights at the Hotel Bernardi. Booking was done via email and all the communication was prompt and efficient. Room of average standard - rather tired and old - but good to be able to accommodation 4 in one room. Good value for money for Venice standards. Bathroom clean but very small.... More

We stayed at Hotel Bernardi during the hot summer month of August. Thankfully, they had air conditioning, which kept the room cool. We were told we would have a small double bed to share, but were pleasantly surprised to have an extra twin bed in the room. The room was fairly large for this class of hotel/pensione. It had an... The room (a single with shared bath) was very basic, but for the amount I paid (35 euros) I was very happy. I booked via email and had no problems with my reservation. The hotel is well located, a 5-10min. walk from water bus stop "Ca' D'Oro" (a few stops away from the main train station) and within walking distance... More

Our family of four (two teenagers) stayed here in July. We couldn't have been happier. We had our own bathroom and were able to stay all four in one room. It wasn't huge, but many hotels don't have rooms that sleep 4. The owners were extremely friendly (not even remotely grumpy), the breakfast was great, we were able to use... More

Oh my, where to begin....Contacted and received confirming email from the hotel for to rooms. When arrived, they indicated that only one room was available and that we had cancelled the 2nd(which was not the case). Then the fun began. The rooms are nothing as advertised and are one class above hostel quality. Don't understand how any reviewers could give... More

We stayed at this hotel because of the price and hotel's ability to accomodate family of four. We stayed on the third floor and had a rather large room by european standards with a sink in the room. We booked a shared bathroom that was in the corridor, but never heard anyone else use it the whole time there, we... More

My friend and I stayed at the Bernardi for two nights in one of the rooms on the top floor. Here are our brief thoughts: PROS The room itself was great -- top floor, relatively spacious and clean, private bathroom, air conditioning. Making the reservations with Leonardo and Santina was easy using e-mail. The location is good, close to the... More

This was a quaint hotel on a quiet canal. We had the adjoinging 2 bedroom 1 bath--absolutely wonderful. The staff was very kind and helpful. Clean rooms. Wonderful breakfast--very european. Very picturesque. We would definitely stay here again. Great price too. This was not too far from St. Marco's square.

I took a school Art trip to this hotel in February of 2007. The hotel was great value, clean and very well located. When Ryanair cancelled our flight at the last minute and left me stranded in Venice with 28 school children the hotel moved heaven and earth to find places for all of us (and let us pay later... Staying in Cannaregio

Neighborhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighborhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
