This was our second stay in two years. Both stays were excellent. Wonderful location: close to St Mark's Square, ATM machine, vaporetto station, food and drink. Breakfast was wonderful. Room was fine - we didn’t come to Venice to sit in a room. Room was clean. Bed was comfortable. Bathroom was clean and modern. Staff spoke English, were friendly and...

This hotel is conveniently located but is far enough away from the crush of tourists in the San Marco area. We have always stayed in room 115 which is located in the annex a few doors away from the main hotel. It has a small terrace which is quite nice. The only drawback is that it is located on the...

beautiful place, great location. Venice is becoming a little like Disney World with no one living there and being sustained by tourists but it is definitely worth at least one visit. Nothing bad to say about my wife and I's 3 night stay here.

Pleasant stay in the centre of Venice. The hotel is small but gives the possibility to explore Venice (Rialto and San Marco especially) from a very central location. The room was not big, but comfortable enough for two. Breakfast is included in the price, and cater for buffet, which is good. Price is high, but unfortunately the centre of Venice...

We wanted a good location near San Marco Square for sightseeing, prefererably with breakfast included and not at a price which wouldn't allow us to do and see other things while in Venice. Hotel Al Piave hit all the key requests and more. Lovely family owned hotel - third generation in a quieter and easily accessible part of Venice. The...

Hotel al Piave, has the best service! The front desk was exceptionally helpful. The neighborhood is perfect, quiet, and away from main tourist traffic, but easy walking to everything you want. The breakfast is delicious and generous! The room and bathroom were spacious and clean.

The room was small, but big enough for two with baggage. The breakfast was good with a variety of hot and cold things to eat. The location is great, in a quiet neighborhood not far from most of the sights. The hotel website provides an excellent video describing how to get from the ferry to the front door. The staff...

The folks at Hotel al Piave are very friendly and helpful. They provided lots of advice on where to eat, etc. They also speak good English, which was a big plus for me since my grasp of Italian leaves a lot to be desired. The breakfasts were very good with a variety of hot and cold items. Our room on...

Wonderful hotel - family owned. Everyone is so helpful and friendly. Breakfast is delicious! Rooms are beautiful! When we first made our reservations, I thought we may be too far from the action, but the location was perfect!!

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
