We loved our stay here. The position is exceptional, very near Rialto bridge, shopping, restaurants. The only catch is the 64 steps in and out. Great for fitness though. Staff were lovely, very helpful. I would definite recommend this hotel.

Once again we have visited beautiful Venice and again stayed at Antica Locanda Sturion. This hotel is right in the heart of all that's happening!! Just down from the famous Rialto bridge, it is close to water taxi services, fabulous restaurants and the tourist area for shopping. Very welcoming. Very obliging! Wonderful view! Lovely breakfast. Not for those who cannot... More

This hotel is absurd - I would not encourage anyone to go here! There are about 70 steps to reach the reception. While leaving, we did not have anyone to carry our bags down and the receptionist just said no one was available. Moreover, poor service too. There was only one towel in the room. When we asked for another... More

This is a nice older, ornate hotel in Venice near the Grand Canal. The bathroom is larger than most in hotels we stayed throughout Italy. Very clean and a great shower. The a/c worked okay, but did not get the room as cool as we like for our afternoon siesta's in hot, muggy Venice. The staff was VERY helpful, polite... More

We arrived in mid-morning from Florence, before check-in time. We were able to check-in early to a beautiful room after being offered coffee and juice while we waited. Very friendly staff recommended a restaurant where we had a great dinner. Breakfast was more than expected, served in a beautiful room overlooking the Grand Canal.

Superb room with an idyllic view of the Grand Canal. Great location in the old town, just by Rialto bridge. Relaxed unobtrusive staff, fine breakfast with a wonderful view if you get the window seats. Very enjoyable. Hotel is an old building, with the entrance tucked away down an alley. There are no lifts, so it’s a long climb to... More

Perfectly situated near the Rialto Bridge, with 'typical Venetian decor,' and accomodating staff who each morning set up an above-average variety of food served in the breakfast room that overlooks the Grand Canal. This was our second stay there for my wife and me (we'd visited about 8 years prior) and it was as good as before. Yes you have... More

Firstly I booked this hotel only one month before my visit so my options were limited as we needed two rooms over 5 days. I chose it because of its location and the fact that they had rooms overlooking the Grand Canal. There are so many restaurants and eateries around it didn't bother me they didn't have a restaurant or... More

We had the pleasure of staying here for two nights - the location is central for city walking or water bus etc to many of Venice's landmark buildings. We booked last minute and found the staff friendly and felt we had a truly authentic stay - yes the stairs are steep! The included breakfast was good. it is the location... More

We only stayed one night but Antica Locanda Sturion was a great hotel at the right price. Being next to the Rialto bridge made it easy to find all of the attractions of the city and the staff were very friendly.

Staying in San Polo

Neighborhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighborhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
"Antica Locanda Sturion," probably Venice’s most ancient hotel still running, is a cosy small Venetian House featuring just 11 rooms. Its decor, the ancient style furniture and the Venetian red damask and brocade make it special, creating a truly traditional unique and cosy feeling. A welcoming place from the past with superb and very impressive views on the Grand Canal and Rialto Bridge from the two Superior Rooms and the beautiful Breakfast Lounge, which is also: - a reading room with a tiny yet well-stocked library boasting a number of books in various languages.- a living room for an afternoon break and taking photos of the magnificent sunsets on the Grand Canal. You have just to take a look in the evening or early morning to breathe the magic of Venice and take a dip in the past and its atmosphere. Truly a breathtaking view! This Boutique Hotel is a small and well-established family business run by Nicole, Manuela, Helen and Flavia, who will do all their best to provide you with specific suggestions and advice for an unusual and intriguingly unique approach to our town. And in all our old-style rooms you will find the kettle to prepare a good cup of tea or coffee with complimentary cookies to rest after a long city tour. In a nutshell the right place to breath a truly Venetian and romantic atmosphere. As there is no lift to reach the Locanda, situated on the top floor of an Ancient Palace on the Grand Canal, we want our Guest to be aware they have to climb a long stairs, but our bellman Giuseppe will be happy to help you carrying upstairs your heaviest items.
