Wonderful location but rather disappointing stay. Staff weren't welcoming at all, except the person in the restaurant for breakfast times. Food choices at breakfast were very limited, especially for one of us who is vegetarian. The room was okay, nothing special although I've read some reviews stating it is boutique which I can't understand. The room and bathroom could have... More

A family oriented hotel with 3 stars in the center of Venice. A great view from the rooms, you will open ur eyes and watch the lagoon view in bed. A great day start. Breakfast is enaugh equipped, and if u have a chance, try the restaurant with traditiona foods. The hotel located just a few steps away from the... More

Fantastic location. Old fashioned but pretty. My room was number 24. Quite small but perfect for a solo traveller. Breakfast was continental and tasty. Great coffee. Dinner was gorgeous. Staff attentive and a nice welcome. Down side...very noisy - the.room above must have been on a honeymoon! My suitcase was left in reception all day rather.than being secured safely. I... More

The Pensione Wildner is a very nice hotel in a great location. Located on the harbor just outside the Grand Canal, it is less than 5 minutes from San Marco to the west. There is a vaparetto stop and a water taxi strop almost directly in front. The rooms are not large by U.S. standards but are typical for Europe.... More

I've stayed at this hotel two times......both time it was wonderful! The view was exceptional, the food delicious and the location is near the vaporetto so you can get everywhere easily. Make sure you try the prix fix menu .......it was very good! You can't go wrong when staying in Venice!

We paid for the location as we wanted to be on the Grand Canal and a stones throw from St. Mark's Square. Excellent location as the vaporetto (water taxi) is right outside the hotel and with suitcases that makes life much easier! The hotel itself is adorable from the outside, but the only thing updated is the lobby bathrooms. There... More

Hotel Pensione Wildner is 3* rated hotel - this star rating is very much applicable to the hotel accommodation only. The room we stayed in was clean and tidy but the view non existent and overlooking the side view of the hotel next door with accompanying aircon/ventilitation piping. The room was generally lacking in natural daylight. Our four day stay... More

Lovely small hotel above a restaurant where you have your breakfast included, centrally located and run by friendly helpful staff particularly Michele who emailed me when an upgrade to grand canal view room became available unfortunately was out of our price range but on arrival he kindly allocated a room on the top floor with lovely views across the roof... What a gem of a place to stay. With it's Venetian style furnishings and location overlooking the lagoon, it typified Venice. We booked this place online requesting a lagoon view room and were not disappointed. Our room on the 4th floor had a great view, but beware....there is no lift, so high floors wouldn't suit all. The staff are friendly... More

The restaurant was a nice find. It is close to St Mark's Square but of high quality and the view is wonderful. We stayed with fish which was well done and the service was friendly and fun. Not a stuffy place though the service was good and the quality high.

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
