Hotel Wildner's restaurant is first rate, even more so given the fact that it is on a very touristy street on the lagoon, just beyond St. Mark's Square. The restuarant is a member of the Slow Food movement, which features locally produced seafood, meat and produce, so everything is very fresh and cooked to order. We enjoyed the food so... More

Lovely looking hotel within walking distance to St Marks Square and other sights. We had a room on the 1st floor without a lagoon view, the room was spacious, very clean and had a powerful shower. It would have been nice to have had tea and coffee making facilities and a fridge in the room but having the attached restaurant... More

Nice hotel at a really nice location in Venice. Short walk to all the different places you want to see. I enjoyed the breakfast also, and the straff had a nice attitude and seemed helpful at all times.

We know Venice pretty well and returned to the Wildner, having stayed at several other similarly priced hotels in the area. The staff are friendly, helpful if you need it, but not pushy. Michele on front desk speaks excellent English and is customer focussed. For the location and service, the price is very reasonable, if you can be a bit... More

We had a room with canal view at the lagoon from Venice. A spectecular view in the middle of eveything you want to see. The rooms are old but that is how it is in Venice. Breakfast on the hotel tarrace on the promenade is priceless!!

We stayed for a week. The location is critical being a few minutes walk from St Marks Square and the rooms have a commanding view over the lagoon. The hotel manager and all the staff were very kind & thoughtful. It gave the impression of a family run hotel. The cleaners were thorough and the rooms without fault. It is... More

This hotel is a stones throw from St Marks square and the view out of the windows is beautiful, what made this hotel stand out was the staff at the front desk. They organised for us to visit Murano Island on the morning of arrival, and when we returned we had Champagne & Chocolates waiting in our room (it was... More

Great family hotel. Don't go if you can not climb the stairs. There is no elevator. Room was to small for 3 people. Worth it for the money and great breakfast with unforgetable views. Everybody was very nice

If you want a Venice restaurant with a great menu and a fabulous view, we recommend the Hotel Wildner. The view is outstanding and the food is fantastic. A great way to take in Venice with all the sights and sounds.

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
