Pensione Accademia is a great hotel for a stay in Venice. The location is excellent for access to the water ferries and walking throughout all of Venice. The hotel is located in a quiet section, across the Grand Canal away from the tourist areas. Restaurants in the area were very good and reasonably priced. The hotel has a wonderful outdoor... More

We have stayed here several times over the years and have always found it to be a wonderful, relaxing place. The gardens and location are fantastic, the staff is helpful, and the breakfast is lovely. We were there again last week, and it's as I remembered, except for one thing: they have installed a pigeon-repeller device in the front garden... More

Dear Busybaker, thank You very much for Your very kind and positive review. Our goal is always to keep pigeons away from the breakfast area, also for an hygienic purpouse, therefore we always put huge efforts in order to do so, even trying different ways and devices. We care about Your opinion and after a briefing with the Owner, we... More

I concur with all the other favourable reviews. We stayed in the 'La Fontana' suite which was wonderful. One other point - we took a private water taxi to the hotel which cost 80 Euros because we were not sure about carrying our luggage up and down the bridges. But the hotel is very near the public water transport wharf... More

You have to make sure you get a decent sized room, but this pensione is a safe bet with decent rates, very nice breakfast included, and just off the Grand Canal by the Accademia Bridge, minutes from the Peggy Guggenheim collection. The interior is decorated to make you feel like you are visiting someone's villa. Gardens in front and in... More

Excellent hotel, warm staff and fantastic neighbourhood. Lots of quirky beautiful stuff all around the hotel. Old singer sewing machine, a piano upstairs in s very beautifully classy drawing room. Hotel done and maintained to very high standard. I spent a long weekend with friends. I had a single room. It was adequate for a busy weekend in Venice on... More

My family (2 adults and 2 young children) stayed here in 2000. We got the attic room and they set-up some small pantry boxes for my younger son to sleep. We have fond memories of climbing the drop down stairs to get to our room and the fantastic window view. I see prices have changed a bit and I did... More

I'd always wanted to stay at this hotel, since I first encountered it while studying at the architecture school in Venice. Fortunately it lived up to all my expectations. Great location, close to the Accademia but incredibly tranquil, with two large beautiful gardens. My room was immaculate and recently renovated. Not large, but I've stayed in much smaller rooms in... The staff was very nice. Rooms were neat and clean. Room rate includes breakfast. The hotel also includes a visit or tour to a glass-making shop? At first, We felt like royalty because the company provided free private transportation to the shop; however, We had to find our own way to get back to Pensione Accademia. The free waterbus tickets... More

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighborhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighborhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighborhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbors exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.
