We stayed here for a couple of nights in September - nice rooms (although don't eat too much Pizza if you are planning to fit in the shower)! The hotel is very confusing to find, we went round in circles for an hour...so make sure yuo get an accurate map. We found some of the staff very disinterested (especially on... More

The hotel is seriously not a 4 star hotel but you can say a good 3 star. Room provided to us was outside the main hotel in a nearby building. Room was spacious but old fashioned, for first 5 mins you would feel a strange stink. The hotel is near to Rialto main area of Island, so well located, near... More

The Hotel was recommended by other friends, who stayed there before, and they were right. The hotel is charming, with kind FO service, tidy and comfy rooms in a great central location.

My husband and I stayed at the Santa Marina for 4 nights. I had done my homework before leaving, and knew exactly where the hotel was located. Like a previous reviewer the directions from the hotels own site is vague. We found that getting the blue line boat from the airport, to Fondamenta Nouve was the easiest way to get... More

Excellent friendly hotel, easy walk to St Marks, Rialto and Ft Nove for island trips. Very friendly and helpful front desk gave us a warm welcome on arrival. Rooms (we stayed in 112) are spotlessly clean, well appointed and quiet (don't underestimate the importance of this latter point in Venice!) Air conditioned with guest control. Good breakfast with a buffet... More

We stayed at this hotel on the last evening of our week long Italy vacation. Quite glad that this was the last hotel...and that we were only here for one night. It was a little hard finding this hotel, but Venice is a maze of tiny alleys, so everything is hard to find twice! I can't knock the hotel for... More

This hotel is beautiful both inside and out. The rooms are decorated in a traditional Venetian way, they are so charming! Also, the people at the reception desk are absolutely lovely. Highly recommended!

There was nothing special about this hotel in my opinion, but it was clean and served its purpose. Its location near the Rialto bridge and San Marco make it convenient. I requested a room on the canal, which we got, but unfortunately there was a dock right beside our window so boats coming to deliver supplies and remove trash, etc.... More

We were not originally booked at the Santa Marina, but another hotel. After trudging through confusing Venice, we finally found our reserved hotel, and were told that, due to a plumbing leak, we would be accommodated elsewhere, which turned out to be the Santa Marina. When we arrived, we were expected and greeted, allowed to check in early, and show... More

A lovely hotel which is in easy walking distance from St.Marks square and Rialto bridge. A little tricky to find at first, esecially in the dark, but once you get your bearings it's fine. We were upgraded to stay in the main Hotel ( from the Annex ) and the room was authentic Venician, small, but spotless with a nice... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
