I didn't know what to expect, and was unprepared for the delights of this little hotel. The staff are wonderful and service is excellent. Apart from that, the location and the accommodation were exceptional features of our stay. We loved our delicious breakfasts on the terrace, watching the gondolas go by so close we could almost touch them.

Recently stayed here for two nights. We had chosen a relatively small room without any view, so there was no surprise there. It perfectly suited our needs. Location was excellent -- seems like it was centrally located to just about everything. Terrace overlooking the Grand Canal was simply lovely. Pleasant, peaceful, great views -- beautiful place to sit and have... More

We loved this hotel and only regret was we had only one night there. Definitely plan to return and stay longer. We felt so welcome the second we walked thru door and everyone treated us so great and all about how they could help us have best time in venice and provide anything we need. This is very special place... More

This is a very unique and wonderful hotel. It has only nine rooms. The first thing that makes it unique and wonderful is the balcony that overlooks the Grand Canal. Breakfast is served here, and later in the day cocktails are served. The balcony is available all day for just sitting and viewing. It is difficult to describe the pleasure... More

I feel very lucky to have stayed two nights at this hotel. We had a large room without a canal view, but this worked well as the canal can be very noisy. The view from the terrace is breathtaking. The staff were excellent, very warm and welcoming and always called us by our names. The owner cooks omelettes or pancakes... More

What a beautiful hotel. From the minute you arrive you can't help but relax thanks to the very attentive, friendly staff and the beautiful terrace looking over the grand canal, The breakfast, cooked by Matteo the owner was great. We stayed in a standard room which didn't have views of the canal but as we literally only slept in the... More

As our family settles back into every day life, we often find ourselves daydreaming of our once in a lifetime trip to Italy. Matteo,Alex,Oliver,David,Thomas and Rosalba instantly became our family away from home. Thru their kindness and guidance we experienced the amazing history of Venice and the warmth of its people. The hotel is one of a kind with its... More

The most outstanding personable hotel I have ever stayed in. Best service I have ever experienced. The owner greets you as you come by boat to their hotel and the owner and staff are amazing. They all address you by name even if it is a staff member who has never seen you before. The location and view are outstanding!... More

My wife and I had a great visit to Venice at the end of July and part of this was due to our stay at the Al Ponte Antico Hotel. The hotel on the Grand Canal is situated very close to the Rialto Bridge (Al Ponte Antico) and is just a short, 10 minute walk from Saint Mark's Square. It... More

We can't say enough good things about Al Ponte Antico! From the moment we arrived Matteo the owner made us feel so welcome and special on the first stop on our honeymoon! All the staff at the hotel greeted us by our first names the whole of our stay which made us feel special! After exploring the city and having... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighborhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighborhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
