I first stayed at this hotel 30-odd years ago as a student when it was little more than a hostel and went back again on the strength of the website photos and because I knew that its location was ideal for what we wanted to do on holiday. Boy, it has changed. Its now very comfortable and the staff, particularly...

We stayed at the colombina hotel recently for a 4 night break and wasn,t disapointed, from the time of booking the hotel e mailed us to let us know location and information about the hotel that certainly made us feel we had made the right choice, we booked a canal view room which for the extra amount was well worth...

We stayed here for 2 nights in a deluxe canal view room. The room was bigger than we expected (after reading all the reviews). It was spacious and we got a welcome fruit basket with fresh fruits. Our room was clean and the staff is very friendly and gave great recommendations on restaurants. It's at a great location less than...

we were originally meant to stay in the sister hotel to this but due to a power failure we were transferred to this hotel. The hotel provided a private water taxi to take my wife and I to the hotel and we were delivered to the waterfront entrance, within sight of the bridge of sighs. What a bonus. The staff...

Very quaint hotel with a great breakfast. Our room was in the annex and was quite nice, OUr friends looked at aoom in the regular part of the hotel and said that was not as nice. Very close to St. Mark's.

arirving by boat at their own little jetty just past the Bridge of Sighs was a very special moment. It was very enjoyable to lean out of our window to look at the canal, although a bit tricky due to height of window and depth of wall ! We are used to venetian hotels having tiny bathrooms and small public...

We visited this hotel in August 2012. we were impressed as we approach but were escorted to a dull, dingy room in the annex. The room was only slightly larger than the bed which was pushed against one wall. One person could walk sideways to get into bed. The other had to scramble up from the bottom of the bed....

We had a wonderful stay in this lovely hotel, the location is excellent for st marks square and the private landing makes arrive by water taxi a real pleasure :-) The rooms are generous and well furnished and we had a lovely big bathroom, and a comfortable bed. The breakfast is good, especially the coffee! We will be going back...

We flew into Venice 3 days before the start of a cruise. We studied many sources and seemed to gravitate to the hotel due to its reviews and location. Rooms are small, but very cozy and the bathrooms were large (by Venice standards). We contacted the hotel directly and they were very efficient in making our reservation and continued to...

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
