Very good location right on the Grand Canal and a short walk from the car parking building.  The receptionist was very friendly and helpful. The room was beautiful with window shutters opening up to the canal. We didn't check out the roof top restaurant since it was rainy and stormy weather in the evening but it was nice to sit outside the 1. floor terrace and have drink while enjoying the venice atmosphere. I assumed for this price that the breakfast would have been even better with more salty options but I guess it's italian style to have more sweets in the morning.

Just finishing a three night stay here and we will definitely be back. From the moment we arrived the staff were so helpful and the hotel is very authentic looking and beautiful. We stayed in room 310 which has lovely decor looked out over the canal and had working air conditioning. Booked a canal ride and meal through the hotel and upon request were able to have our meal on the rooftop terrace, the food was amazing. A special thanks to the restaurant manager who was very attentive and made sure we had everything we wanted. We will definitely return to this hotel. Thank you.

This hotel is directly opposite Santa Lucia Railway station. It is a joy and relief to stay here particularly if you are arriving late or indeed departing early . There is a footbridge to take one to the other side of the Grand Canal. There is a rolling programme of room refurbishment ongoing. When booking be clear about which category of room you want.Do appreciate that the Grand Canal is the equivalent of a busy road and you might want to be in a quieter room away from the front . There is a fabulous and vast terrace on the roof with a bar and restaurant. The general manager, Signor Filippo Nocereno , is magnificent. Trained at the legendary Hotel Des Bain, he knows how to look after his guests and is constantly stopping and saying hello to everyone. He exudes warmth and kindness to everyone including his staff .

We had planned to spend four nights in this hotel but one of us had to quarantine so some of us ended up staying ten nights. The staff were so supportive. They moved me to a room with a fabulous view and put my other family member right across the hall. Room service was very kind - often calling to see if I needed to eat. The hotel arranged for a doctor on a holiday. The staff was just very supportive - especially Claudia. The location while not near St Marks is perfect. Across from the train station. And water ferry station. Gondolas are located steps from the hotel doors. The hotel has a great restaurant with a fabulous view on top of the hotel. Many nearby good restaurants too.

Three years we stayed at the Carlton on the Grand Canal on our first visit to Venice. Upon writing a review of that stay I complained of the tacky room with pink wallpaper and green carpet, location being too far from Saint Marks and other attractions, and the semi OK buffet breakfast. We just returned from our second trip to Venice and again chose to stay at the Carlton, mostly due to its relatively low price. This visit my impression of the hotel was totally different. We were assigned to a "renovated" room that was beautiful. Even the bath was totally renovated. The buffet breakfast had improved considerably. Lastly, I have changed my mind about the location. This was August and the island was overflowing with tourists. It was great to be at the other end of the Grand Canal from the overflowing Saint Marks. We used the nearby train station to our advantage visiting some towns on the mainland like Treviso. We were also delighted to find behind the hotel dozens of tiny restaurants with outside seating where a great meal could be had for $10.00. I now believe The Carlton on the Grand is a fine hotel worthy of one's consideration.

We had a wonderful time. Nothing was too much trouble. Room was wonderful and we had no issues with the air on as mentioned in previous reviews. We booked the romantic package which was a 4 course meal and gondola ride. There was a bit of confusion re the meal so we were then upgraded straight away to the sky bar overlooking Venice for our wonderful meal. Can’t wait to go back.

We stayed here for a short two-night first-time visit to Venice. We chose it due to it's easy links to the nearby Marco Polo airport. We took the shuttle bus upon arrival which terminates at Piazalle Roma, just a short walk along the canal and over just one bridge. The Santa Lucia train station is directly across the canal from the hotel, so another good link. We were speedily checked in and given a brief orientation of Venice on a map which we could take away with us. The hotel is vaguely built in a a courtyard style design, so only a small amount of rooms actually face out over the canal. Our room faced onto another building at the side. The public areas were very clean and tidy, with cream carpets and an ornate Venetian theme. We had a traditional style metal room key which seems so rare these days. Our room was quite large, but the window was slim and barely gave any natural light. We had a triple room with high ceiling and more ornate Venetian style free standing furniture. I would say this style is not our taste but it is very prominent in most accommodation in the area , so it's hard to find something more modern. The bathroom was very clean, well presented and had good hot and cold pressure. The tiling looked dated, but again was clean. The towels were not the fluffy kind, more the kind you would see as a counterpane on a bed. We also had a very large freestanding air-conditioning unit which made the room bearable in the heat. We were room only and did not use any of the hotel restaurants, but did go for drinks on the roof terrace which has great views over the canal and the skyline surrounding. Drinks were pricey, but for the setting this was understandable. You can walk around fairly easily, but sometimes the signage in Venice does not always make logical sense. Easier options are to jump on the Vaporetto (Water bus) which you can catch just beside the Piazzale Roma. You will find the Vaporetto easier if visiting the Rialto bridge or St Marks Square. Overall I think this hotel is an easier option if arriving into Venice and not wanting to get lost, but rather find a base camp and then explore afterwards. It's a reasonably priced option in a city where prices are elevated by demand.

Location on the Grand canal is good, close to the railway station. The room is relatively small /we were three/ and worn-out, they call it "patina" in Italy. The bathroom was a bit rusty and shabby, but the water was running properly. During breakfast you have to ask for every peace of meal from the waiter on an convenient for the management excuse of Corona virus infection, the food was "eatable" but simple and repetitive. Conclusion: in Central Europe such hotel will get a three-star rating.

If your looking for a great hotel in an ideal location then this is it, Venice is small and you can’t be expecting massive rooms etc This hotel offers a great location just across from the railway station and a 5 min walk from the main bus station, yes the rooms are small as stated but they are big enough to lay your head and are well in keeping with the city theme! We only slept in the room and showered, they have a safe which is handy if you don’t feel comfortable leaving or carrying your valuables. It’s nice and clean and cleaned every day if required, the staff are friendly but remember it’s a busy hotel so wait your turn and they will spend as much time as you need with you. Good choice for breakfast for us as we didn’t want to eat loads first thing, this might not be to everyone’s taste!

Myself with my wife stayed for two nights during May 2022. The hotel is so nearer to the Venezia railway station just opposite to it, on the other side of the canal. The room though looks very small but was cosy with an airblower (instead of any fans). The canal and even the railway station and their beauty can be sighted through the window with a small balcony like structure where one can hardly sit comfortably. The buffet breakfast has many varieties but with a very few options for the veggies like us. The reception staff are so cordial and help the guests in arranging the local sight seeing trips etc. There are not much other amenities available in the hotel which is in a very busy shopping and canal side locality. However, we happened to have a very good stay and enjoyed the Venice trip to the maximum going around the beautiful and historical tourist buzzing city.
