we stayed at the palazzetto pisani for a weekend in june, it was a leisure stay, and i have chosen this place for its proximity to st marco and guggenheim museum, it turned out to be a very good choice. on arrival at the venice airport, we took a shared water taxi to the hotel, and the ride through the... Cool little hotel on the Grande Canal, pulled right up with the water taxi, really cool. Beautiful common areas and our room was the old bedroom of the governor of Venice. Very pretty but bathroom shower unusable. Kids stayed in another room that the portable AC unit was blocked by the blinds if closed. They really need to bring this... More

This is the most marvelous hotel, and was a surprise for my partner. However after a nice dinner, 35 degree day, we return to the room late to find the air conditioning unit didn't work. The hotel didn't seem too concerned and of course we paid full price for quite an uncomfortable nights sleep. Despite that, the hotel was incredible...

This is what Venice should be all about. Charm, character and location. I stayed in a 70 sq meter suite, which was reasonably priced for Venice standards and had nice views to the grand canal. However, as a hotel it cannot take 5* due to the lack of facilities. Beware the lack of elevator and the steep staircases. If you... More

We had the Pisani suite on the ground floor, which felt like having our own apartment in Venice. There's an entry hall area, sitting room, bedroom and bathroom. The atmosphere is like staying in a historic property, with the bedroom sporting extremely old wall coverings (500 years old?) and a fireplace big enough to roast an ox. The bathroom was... More

After booking a two bedroom suite with kitchenette at 615 euros per night for six nights was hugely disappointed to get a one bedroom suite, no kitchenette, ripped sun loungers, cat scratched sofa, a more basic bathroom than a travel lodge and the most frustratingly a bath which filled up to 10cm with shower attachment on the bath meaning you... This is the first time I have ever had to write a bad review for the Internet/TripAdvisor, but I think it is justified. Having stayed in Venice last year for 4 days my wife and I decided to return again in May 2016 and having searched the Internet for a different hotel and having read the review’s we book on... More

Loved this place, so full of character. We stayed in the Annex which we knew was not part of the main hotel (hence called an Annex) Huge bedroom, lovely furnishings in keeping with the time period. Air conditioner was a huge bonus as it was 40 degrees when we were there. We still had full use of the main hotel... More

We stayed for 2 nights in the Conservatory Suite. It was so authentically quaint and roomy that we did not want to leave. The hotel was built circa sixteenth century so oozes charm. The breakfast was so good and fresh that we ate there both mornings. Try the cold meat and cheese selection. It was first class. The tiramisu was... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
