It's hard to find a good hotel near St-Mark's that's not completely overpriced but Hotel Isole is a good compromise. The economy room was the smallest hotel room I've ever stayed in but it was clean and the bed comfortable. The breakfast in the courtyard was great, the reception staff very helpful and there were nice touches (free mini-bar, free... More

From the moment we checked in we were impressed, the staff at the reception were helpful recommending places to go and see. A suggestion that one young lady at the reception gave us was to visit Burano and we are very pleased we took her advice, what a wonderful place. Breakfast is served from 7am till 12, this is terrific... More

This is a wonderful small hotel in the heart of Venice on a quiet canal. The breakfast room is open from 7 till noon, and the food is very good. The staff will fix any kind of eggs you want scrambled, fried etc. The women that waited on us was so cheerful and accommodating that it was always a pleasure... More

We stayed for 5 nights in June and had a wonderful time. Room size was quite adequate, very clean and tidy and well maintained. Very convenient location just a couple of minutes from San Marco and the San Zaccharia Vaparetta. We had no trouble with noise and in fact overslept a couple of mornings. The staff were helpful and the... More

Being dropped into Venice is a real experience. The people at Hotel Le Isole were so helpful, the experience became a delight! They assisted us with airline problems, transport to the airport and information about traveling about Venice. With a great location, a short walk to St. Mark's Square, a beautiful room, great view, amazing breakfast and all inclusive mini-bar... More

Venice La isole, great little hotel well located close to all mayor attractions. It's easy access from the vaporeto station. No need to climb stairs with your suitcase. Great staff and wonderful room. Rooms are modern and clean. Breakfast was nice, not exceptional, served in a small patio. The minibar is complementary and they offer coffee and juice all day.... Had an excellent stay here. It's a smaller hotel with a lot of charm. Very clean, comfortable room. The location was great - away from the crowds, but very close to San Marco and an easy walk (with luggage) from the San Zaccaria stop. Our room overlooked a restaurant and we enjoyed opening the doors in the evening and hearing... More

Friendly and helpful staff. Complimentary cookies and coffee throughout the day. Complimentary drinks in the room. Breakfast is served until 12:00pm and they have a nice young woman who can cook you up some fresh eggs, bacon, sausage and toast. To get to the hotel from the Venezia Santa Lucia train station, you can take the vaporetto to San Zaccaria.... More

This small hotel offers personalized attention from a friendly staff, a lovely European breakfast (eggs available on request), sparkling-clean-modern accommodations and a great location in Venice. Rooms come with a fridge stocked with bottled water, soda, beer, the usual safe to store documents and coffee-tea service. The only drawback was the noise from a nearby restaurant. To ensure a quiet... More

Good location. Comfortable room. Free complimentary soft drinks and beer in the room fridge. Nice breakfast buffet. Good service. And on top of all that, affordable prices. Next time though I will ask for a room that looks onto the canal or some other view; I had a room looking out over the street and had a street lamp shining... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
