We had the suite overlooking the grand canal. Two big windows. Great views. Comfortable Queen bed. Close to train terminus Piazzale Roma and near the Jewish Quarter. Great restaurant at the waterfront. Terrific breakfast. Very comfortable. 4 star. Old but renovated in places. Best value for price. Would go again. General Manager Gian Carlo and staff at Reception Claudia were... More

I would not stay here again, staff was not knowledgeable or friendly. Good location if you are doing a lot of walking. Needs cleaned up and better elevators. Very very loud, on a canal and main street both, not easy to get a good nights sleep. Very good restaurant. Keys were huge and heavy, had to leave them at the... More

I spent a night at this hotel. I was allocated room 311 which overlooks the Grand Canal. This room allocation was the highlight of my trip to Venice. Venice is a most unique and unusual destination and to have visual access to its main attraction, the Grand Canal, where life floats by you every minute of the day and most... More

We recently stayed three nights at the Hotel Continental Venice as part of a group tour of Rome, Florence and Venice. We had read mixed reviews of the hotel on TripAdvisor but given the excellent location and the fact it was prearranged by the tour company, we were willing to decline the cost to upgrade and hoped it would provide... Dear Guest, thank you for your report. I am sorry to read your statement. I was informed of what happened and, the same day I made internal investigations. I can confirm that nobody on my staff may have done what you have declared. A video surveillance system only takes up the access from the outside and common areas on the... More

When we got to Venice it was a our last stop in Italy and we were tired. The rooms were huge, but the beds were two twin beds pushed together with no attempt to even look like a king. Not the biggest deal, more just fun to see. I took a picture! The shower itself was very very small and... More

We stayed here one night, just before a cruise that left from Venice. We arrived in Venice by train , so it was very convenient to get to the hotel , just a few minutes walk even with 2 big suitcases as there is no bridges to cross. We had a great view of the canal from our room ,... More

We spent two nights in Venice in Hotel Continental and were very happy with our choice. The location was fantastic; just a few minutes walk from the railway station which meant that we did not have to struggle with our luggage on the river bus or any of the steps over the river. We asked for a room on the... More

Just spent a long weekend in The Continental on a weekend break with jet2.com. Great location on Grand Canal and 2 minutes from railway station and vaparetto hub. Comfortable but old fashioned rooms, but this is Venice. No complaints on breakfast and all staff friendly and helpful. Would certainly stay here again and in my opinion represents excellent value for... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighborhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighborhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
