My girlfriend and I had a wonderful 2 nights at Hotel Hesperia. It is very well located, close to the train station and bus stop and in a very nice part of the city (Cannaregio). The sisters were very welcoming and spoke excellent English. Room was comfortable and clean (and warm in January). When we mentioned that it was my... More

From booking to leaving we were more than happy with our choice of hotel for our 15th wedding anniversary. We were put in a very nice room on the first floor, overlooking the Canareggio canal. The sight when we opened the shutters the first morning was mesmerising! The canals are like our high streets and the way the boats are... More

We stayed for 2 nights. Arrived at 7pm and took the long route of 10-15 min walks dragging our heavy bags along the canal - we were very happy to finally see a lighted place that mark this hotel's entrance. We are upgraded to a 2nd floor room with side canal view at no additional cost. Next day, we checked... More

We stayed in this hotel for 3 nights, I can say it is a great hotel in terms of location, price, rooms & service. Breakfast feels like you are sitting in your home. Staff is also helpful. I recommend this hotel highly.

I've been meaning to write this review for the stay that my family had in Jun 2011. The location was good, to walk to the train station was about 20 mins. A leisurely stroll in the opposite direction to St Mark square, along alleys, passing thru shops, restaurants, took about 30 mins. The hotel was beside a canal, and we... More

I was concerned at the beginning of my trip that we would struggle to find this hotel from the train station- it was very easy. The map on the website was clear to understand. The staff were lovely at this hotel, pointing out where the main attractions and water bus stops were. Lots of restaurants are around the hotel. Would... More

Located hotel hesperia on tripadvisor when searching for a location convenient to transport stops and harbour. The location turned out to be perfect. It is easy to access from the airport as the orange line of the Alliguna ferry service is about 100m from the hotel on the oposite side of the canal (convenient bridge access accross canal) The ferry... What a wonderful find, located just off the main thoroughfare, close to the railway station yet so quiet and peaceful. Staff were superb, rooms so clean and the entire place was - well, "Venice". Excellent value, great breakfast and wonderful coffee. Close to a lovely selection of restaurants and quaint bars, a short walk to the vaporetta and a lovely... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighborhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighborhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
