Took eldest daughter to Venice for her 18th Birthday. Hotel Bisanzio offered a very convenient loft 'suite' with 2 bunk beds and a separate double on a mezzanine floor. Not cheap but seemed good value for Venice. Breakfast was included in the price and was OK but not a great selection and could get busy at times. However, the hotel... More

Great value hotel in pricey Venice, great location easy walk to Grand Canal, and tons of restaurants, and shopping. Hotel has its own dock for arriving and departing water taxi's. Hotel offered great breakfast with very attentive service, front desk was so helpful Hotel exchanged currency at s fair rate and no service fees. 2 negatives, 1. Poor internet service,... More

This trip, was a big one...short.. but a big one, our 30th Wedding anniversary celebration to be precise. Arriving via water bus is an event in itself, with a warm, approaching hot, breeze we delivered ourselves to the waterfront of waterfronts. Flanked by the Gondolari we were at first dazzled and then puzzled by where we would find the hotel... More

The hotel was great, the staff very helpful. The made suggestions on how to find the best restaurants away from the crowds where the food and prices are much better. The lobby was very modern, with the rooms a bit more rustic but comfortable.

Really can't say enough nice things about our stay. The gentlemen at the front desk were very nice, spoke very good English, and were extremely helpful with tips for the city. Our room was quaint and rustic, enjoyed the log beams. Bed was comfortable. Plenty of outlets and minibar. The wifi had a good speed. The shower was a little... More

This is an excellent hotel made even better by the quality of its staff. It is very conveniently located close to St Marks Square yet away from direct contact with the hordes. The hotel was easy to find after a Vaporetto ride from Ferrovia at Santa Lucia railway station we used the 4.1 route getting off at San Marco (S.... More

Hotel was clean, reasonably affordable despite the height of tourist season, location in st Mark's ideal. Breakfast isn't great, but a minor quibble (is the only meal served by the hotel). Nothing life-changing but for a clean and comfortable base of operations to explore Venice, it's great, and I'd stay here again.

A very good hotel in heart of Venice (San Marco). It takes about 40 minutes to get to from the train station. Get off at San Zaccaria's station and you are almost there ( just bear in mind that you have to cross a bridge that does not have a ramp). As a family of 4, we were given two... More

A second visit to this lovely hotel, the location is perfect for St Marks Square, Doges Palace, Bascilica and the lovely waterfront. The team can't do enough for you. The rooms are clean bug enough for your needs, rooms cleaned daily and the breakfast room has everything from scrambled eggs, bacon, continental style, and fresh fruit. If you like a... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
In the heart of Venice, in a location that is extremely quiet but close to all the principal attractions of the city, the Hotel Bisanzio occupies an ancient 16th-century palazzo that was once the home and “workshop” of Alessandro Vittoria, one of the most important Venetian sculptors of the 16th century and a student of the great Jacopo Sansovino. A recent, careful restoration has allowed the Hotel Bisanzio to preserve the fascination of an ancient Venetian palazzo that is, today, equipped with every modern amenity, to ensure a relaxing stay in a structure equipped with elevator, air-conditioning, LCD TV and Wi-Fi Internet access. Ease of access is not secondary when talking about Venice, where people almost always get around on foot. The Hotel Bisanzio is perfectly located, just 150 meters from the city's main public transportation stop (San Marco - Zaccaria), where all the lines for the other areas of the city and the adjacent islands arrive and depart. ... more   less
