Great location overlooking the lagoon, 5 minutes walks from the main square. The hotel is very quaint and well decorated, the rooms are a nice size with good bathrooms. The bed is very comfortable, best night sleep I have had in many months! Breakfast was amazing, I would recommend and certainly would come again to this very reasonably priced hotel.

The ethos of this hotel is summed up by the greeting at reception - unsmiling and unhelpful. Questions were answered with short sharp answers and if we could have, we would have changed hotels immediately. No wifi, no tea/coffee facilities in our room and they were very small and outdated. The positive side is the lovely, varied and substantial breakfast... More

The location of the hotel is at least 5 stars. The front desk could be friendlier/welcoming. Walking into the hotel is very anti-climatic--after arriving by a water taxi and reveling in the idea of being in Venice. The location of the hotel is ideal -- St.Mark's Square is a short walk. There is a patio outside which is ideal to... More

the hotel is just a minit from the Arsenale, vaporetto stop. so you can come from airport by boat. The right side of the hotel, there is a lot of famous spots always busy and if you go to left side, less people and quiet open space are waiting. behind the hotel also nice and different. you can enjoy many... I stayed in this hotel for 2 nights as part of a travel group. It was a small sized room with a very narrow bathroom. when sitting on the toilet, my boyfriend and i pretty much had to sit sideways because your legs do not fit because the tub is so close. I did love that the sink and shelves... More

Myself and my partner visited Venice for my birthday last week and our stay here was great!! Our room was amazing we had a room on the top floor over looking the sea. The room we had on the 2nd floor was clean, nice size, and had a refrigerator. We were able to either just walk down into the garden or take the elevator, if needed. The hotel's restaurant and bar was nice. The breakfast was very good.

At first I really did not believe my son when he said that he had booked us (a family group of five) into a Hotel within walking distance of St Mark's Square in Venice. Such a location is a facet of dreams. Turning this dream into reality is surely the work of a conjuror! Yet conjuror he had become! Our... More

My family traveled to Venice this summer and stayed at the Hotel Gabrielli. We were given four rooms on the fifth floor. Each was very spacious, clean and elegantly decorated. The breakfast buffet was far more than a traditional continental menu with pastries, cereals, juices, coffee and hot foods such as bacon and scrambled eggs. The location is perfect -... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
