While this is a beautiful hotel in the heart of the fashion shopping area and close to Piazza San Marco, the rooms are small and the bed is as hard as the marble in Italy. The breakfast, if that is what you want to call it, leaves a lot to be desired by American standards. Nothing hot offered, not even... More

We stayed here for three nights and enjoyed it very.much. location great, rooms clean, service professional except for breakfast when they got a bit stressed when place got full absorbing can be noisy. Didn't give it five because breakfast offered just ok, breakfast room small no bar snacks other than peanuts and potatoe chips plus bit noisy in morning as... More

The Romancing of Venice The mists envelope our midday arrival at Venezia Airport, a fresh awakening after a long flight. €15 gets us a seat on the waterbus which whisks us off toward San Marco. The fat seagulls guide our way, perched upon the pylons which are hammered into the the ocean floor. Screeching a welcome and diving for for... More

Our room was styled in true Italian Provincial Style, smaller than expected, yet clean and bed comfortable. Shower door was about 18 inches wide, had to turn sideways to enter. The breakfast by day three was tiresome yet granola was delicious. Enjoyed proximity to everything central. One night I could smell cigarette smoke very strong caused my asthma to flare... More

We had a fantastic trip to the hotel via car and boat taxi. We were warmly greeted by staff and for the 5 days we were there the staff were faultless. We were given a room overlooking the canal, due to the darkness( my opinion) of the room we were offered 3 different rooms. Which one was to our liking.... More

Family visit here over the Halloween weekend. We stopped here as we wanted to be central and didn't want the agro of staying on the lido and relying on water taxi's/buses. You are literally 3 mins walk from St Marks Square. We had rooms overlooking the canal and really enjoyed watching the Gondolas going past, with music and singing !... More

This hotel could not possibly be in a better location. Quiet, with canal access, close to a waterbus stop, and almost directly adjacent to all the major sights. I'll try and answer all the questions we had before we arrived. We took a private water taxi to arrive and were dropped off at at the San Marco vaporetto station. The... More

This was our fourth stay at The Hotel Kette in Venice. It is very well located just five minutes from St Marks square. The hotel is very beautiful inside and cosy. The staff are very polite and friendly. The rooms are typical Italian style, we requested a canal facing view and were given a room on the third floor with two... More

This hotel is full of character. The location is good, although during September - November, the access is underwater during high tide. We found the staff to be pleasant and helpful, and very accommodating. Even after we had checked out, they were happy to store our bags and we didn't feel out of place when we returned to use the... Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
