The hotel is beautiful in that old classical way, very Venetian and it sits right in the heart of Venice. I am a huge fan of SPG, so I do try and collect points whenever and wherever I can so I can travel and get free rooms. Normally when I do so, it is never a problem nor am ever...

It is my first stay in this Westin hotel in Venice. My initial impressions of this hotel are, unfortunately, disappointing. I had originally called the hotel concierge for directions and best way to the hotel. Was told to take the vaporetta (water bus). Had also asked how do we get from the San Marco stop to the hotel and the...

We stayed at the Westin for about 4 nights. We were first given a suite overlooking the venetian rooftops, which I didn't enjoy at all, given we're in Venice!!?? Yet, when we asked them for a suite overlooking the water, the staff was very helpful in meeting our request Let's start with the pros: 1) even though the location of...

Unless you take a Watertaxi be prepared to run with your suitcase through various small streets of Venice until you arrive there. Because of that not many Tourists walk by this Hotel and even so it is very Close to San Marco it is pleasantly quiet especially after a day of sightseeing together with millions of other People on the...

The only negative I have about this hotel was that it is not well sign posted. I have lived in Venice before and have trouble finding the entrance so I imagine it would be harder for a new traveller. First off, Venice is expensive. Very. You just have to get used to that. A few tips on that in a minute. It's an economy of scale. Once you realize it's all expensive you feel a little better about it. This hotel has pretty much the best Venice location you can get. Directly on the Grand Canal. Three minute walk...

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
