The Gardena Hotel in Venice is beautifully decorated and the staff very welcoming. It was also immaculately clean. Our bathroom was so clean we could have been forgiven for thinking we were the first to use it. The breakfasts were continental but there was plenty of choice, from cereals, breads, cold meats & cheeses, pastries and fruit. The location, though,... More

Staff was very nice and helpful. Very clean and relaxing. Location was not difficult to find as others since it is at the entrance to Venice. Restaurants are close by for lower cost meals not on main water way or you can eat on the main water way that is just around the corner.

Location is fabulous....Easy to find (which is huge in Venice!!!) --1-2 minutes to bus, train or water transportation. (I came in by bus and left by train) Front desk is always open and Carlo and Petro were exceptionally nice and helpful to me! Nice full breakfast. We stayed in early July. It is down a side cannel which is beautiful and a little bit quieter. The hotel is simple and old school elegance. We had a room on the third floor and it was a lovely decorated room. Quite simple, no tea or coffee but we managed. They are helpful at the front desk if you... More

We were a little skeptical while booking a hotel in Venice, considering the fact that due to lack of space hotel rooms, might be tiny. Much to our surprise the room was so big, nice , clean with a huge bathroom which is equally nice. The whole room gives a palace kind of look and feel and what more it... More

Great location, easy to find, short walk from the rail station , nice comfortable room , ours on the second floor looking to the garden, quiet for a good night sleep and accessible to many places . Great breakfast 7-10 am with a great variety of items. Option of having breakfast in the garden in nice weather, which is a... More

My wife and I have a horrible experience of Venice and you can thank this hotel for that. We booked our hotel trough trip masters after checking out hotel photos. We arrived at around noon time and were given room out of the hotel building in a small cottage close to breakfast area. My wife and I are not picky... More

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighborhood identity.
