We stayed at Al Duca for 3 nights at the end of April and were really happy with our choice of hotel. I thought the hotel was great value, considering the price of other similar hotels in Venice. The staff at Al Duca were really fantastic and helped me to reserve a table at a couple of nearby restaurants (I... More

The best thing about it is the air conditioning! Coming back from a day walking the streets you really want a good Aircon and it was excellent. The staff could not do more to help and make us feel at home. The rooms are clean and huge. Even the bathrooms were very spacious. Very reasonably priced. Location : 5 minutes... More

We stayed here for 11 days and, frankly, we're sorry to leave. The hotel is an absolute oasis in the lovely alleys and canals of a quieter part of Venice. Naturally, we got lost between the railway station and the hotel (and plenty of other times too!!) Once we found it, we received a warm welcome from Michelle, the receptionist,... More

As with many boutique hotels, you don't exactly know what to expect out of the room until you show up. What a beautiful surprise! Our two room suite had high ceilings, beautiful flooring and decor authentic to it's palatial beginnings. Our room had so many extras but my favorite had to have been the narrow balcony accessed through french style... More

Stayed one night and was upgraded to a suite. It was beautiful! Loved having the two rooms. There were four adults ... We only wished we booked Venice longer! Everyone was super nice. We kept our luggage there day of check out till our night train which was a great help to us! Definitely are planning a trip back to... More

Upon arrival the desk staff congratulated my wife and I on our anniversary (merely from my comment on our reservation notes). Next, they escorted us to the rooms that were available and allowed us to choose which we preferred, something I have never experienced at any price level! After checking in just before dinner, the staff not only helped us... More

We stayed in a unit which was not part of the base hotel - it had 2 queen beds and 1 twin so it made it feel less like a hotel and more like an apartment. As a result of this location, we felt like we were staying amongst the locals. The front staff was very nice and was able... More

We stayed at the hotel for 2 nights. My bf had booked this place for a reasonably good rate. It must have been a good rate because we got the room right on the ground floor right beside the reception. That was fine with us since the room was pretty sound proof and we could get in and out of... More

We stayed in the Tipelo apartment. It was very roomy and not far from the hotel. The best part of it was the kitchen. We actually used that feature a lot! Being in Venice with their wonderful markets, it was fun to come home and make a meal and then go out for gellatto later. There was also a private... More

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighborhood identity.
