He whole of Venice is a fantastic location (!) but this hotel really is well sited. It is at the top end of he canal, a short walk from the station, just over the bridge and then a five minute walk. It is right on the Grande Canale so you can sit and draw or take in the atmosphere with...

We visited Venice with two children under the age of three and could not have been made more welcome at the hotel. The children loved the buffet breakfasts and so did the adults. We hope to stay at the hotel again.

Great location, very clean, good breakfast, rooms are all unique and reflect local Venice flavor as if you're in your own Palazzo. Location is close to train so you can just walk over bridge, but out of the craziness of saint marks square yet still walkable. Staff was very polite and helpful and professional yet friendly. Highly recommend.

We spent a week at this hotel with a room overlooking the Grand Canal. The room was not overly large, but it was so lovely and offered such views of the canal and the campo that it was worth it. The breakfast buffet is sufficiently varied that you had choices for everyday. Since we were there on the the first...

Stayed one night in the Prestige room on last night of our trip...clean and beautifully decorated. Felt like we were royalty. Staff was amazing and went over and above to ensure our comfort. Magical place for sure!

The hotel is located on the Grand Canal and is a 5 minute walk from the train station. The staff are very friendly and went out of their way to be helpful. Having arrived 7am they got us settled into our room earlier than the check in time. They had maps of Venice and advice on what to do. The...

This was our 4th visit to Venice and we were lucky to be here for the start of Carnival. This small hotel has a lovely feel about it. Rooms are beautifully presented and clean with typical Venetian decor. Staff are so helpful and nothing is too much trouble. Will definitely stay again.

We had a fabulous trip to Venice and stay at the Hotel Canal Grande. It was perfect for the three of us as they accommodated us with three twin beds. The breakfast was wonderful and the proximity to the train station was helpful for our early morning train.

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighborhood identity.
