2023 Travelers' Choice Best of the Best
Canal Grande is a charming boutique hotel located in Ca' Polacco, an elegant little palace which has just been restored. The furniture of the hotel is characterised by the elegance of Rococo style, typical of 18th century Venice. The lobby with its rose marble fireplace, the breakfast room with its golden mirrors, and the bar with its Venetian red velvet armchairs overlook the Grand Canal and are the best places where to begin and end a day! The small terrace on the Grand Canal gives our Guests the possibility to have a drink in a special setting and to "breathe the air of the canal"!!

This is without question the best hotel in Venice! Everything you could want and service that is outstanding. The location is perfect, close to train station and on the grand canal so it’s easy to go anywhere in Venice. Wonderful breakfast buffet and outside seating overlooking the canal or seating inside. I have stayed at 5 different hotels in Venice and this is the best!

Hotel's Favorite
I have had the good fortune to travel quite a bit in my life but this was the first time to Venice. The Hotel Canal Grande may very well be the most beautiful, well run, welcoming, and comfortable hotel I have ever stayed. We stayed for 3 nights to celebrate a very big birthday and a much overdo anniversary. The hotel is very easy to get to and just one vaporetto stop from the train station. The front desk was very welcoming and efficient with our check in. We stayed in the Suite Canalotta overlooking the Grand Canal. Omgosh! This was the most elegant room with a separate comfortable sitting area. The furnishings were exquisite! The bed was so comfortable. The room was very clean and the cleaning service was exceptional. Despite being on the canal the noise was minimal. The bathroom was breathtaking and we loved how at night, a courtyard lamp lit it up just perfectly. The tile in the shower is so elegant!!! We were so surprised and touched when we were brought presecco and a lovely chocolate cake ( to die for) wishing me a happy birthday. They were generous with drinking water which we did not find to often be the case in Italy. The breakfast spread was absolutely one of the best! So lovely to hear Buongiorno , Buongiorno every morning and to be asked what they could bring you for coffee. I was even offered to have made a cappuccino with plant based alternative which again stood out as a testament of their service. The breakfast included scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, salad, charcuterie, cornetto, belgium waffles, pancakes, unbelievable pastries! I just couldn’t get enough of the custard filled Krapfen donuts! All of this served in lovely elegant and comfortable lounges or on the balcony if you wished. We took the hotel suggested and arranged the “Hidden Venice” tour which was fantastic fun and so educational! This gave us the courage to feel totally comfortable just getting “lost” on our last day in Venice. There are many great Bakaro , cicchetti easy walking distance and many fine restaurants a vaporetto ride away. One afternoon we sat out on the hotel balcony to enjoy the presecco we had been given and they brought us an ice bag as well as some aperitivo snacks. How special just to watch the boats, gondolas and vaporetto go by! Venice is just magical! No place in the world like it! The Hotel Canal Grande was absolutely perfect in every way! I fought back tears as we left. I so hope some day we can return. Thank you so much to everyone at this PERFECT in every way hotel for making our trip so memorable!

Location was convenient to train station- porters available to transport luggage ( you have to cross the bridge stairs so very convenient). Best customer service we’ve ever received. All staff available and helpful. There wasn’t a canal view room available- but the room was charming. We walked everywhere-and loved it.

Friendly and helpful staff, delicious breakfast buffet, comfortable bed, I would pass on the drinks at the bar, we ordered an old fashioned and a Cuba libre, we were not impressed. Everything else was outstanding.

The location was fantastic with amazing views of the canal from the terrace, in a more quieter part of the city and very close to some great local bars and quiet squares, as well as the train station. Also used the signs for the train station to find our way back to the hotel when we got lost (which is fun). I was a little disappointed with the standard of hotel itself, not as luxury as expected, although appreciate an old historic building , beds were comfortable though and good linen, and the air con worked well although there was a noisy dehumidifier in the room switched on which noone explained as to why until we asked if could switch off We had asked to be in the main building more than once before our stay, but were put in the separate building close by, they did move us the next day though which was good. Separate building was fine, next to a residential home, just preferred to be in main part, had waited ten years to stay in this specific hotel after our previous visit to Venice when the hotel was full, and chose this hotel especially with our tour operator Planet Rail rather then there suggested hotel, wish I'd maybe asked Planet Rail to be in canal facing room as we were on ground floor both times, or gone with there initial suggestion of hotel. Customer service okay, wish we'd been told about the Venice Festival of the Sea which we missed, the young female intern was stand out, really enjoyed speaking with her. Venice is amazing and really made our special anniversary 😍❤️.

Wonderful experience at the Hotel. We were originally booked at their sister hotel Hotel Antiche Figure but they gave us the option to choose and we are very pleased with this hotel. Check-in was very easy, our bags were moved seamlessly from the other hotel straight to our room. The hotel staff were very helpful from booking us water taxis to recommending outstanding dinner reservations with a table on the canal to watch all the activity. Buffet breakfast was excellent for cold buffet, cereals, yogurts, fresh juices, meats and cheeses and the bakery and pastries were all fresh. Service was excellent and no limit to our coffees and tea requests. Special call out to Anna who was most helpful, organizing our dinners, porter to the train station and even taking care of printing out our train tickets, just in case. Great start to our vacation.

We spent three nights here in the Santa Lucia suite. Super easy to find from the main station and by the grand canal. Very comfortable beds and the room was amazing. The staff are very curteous and helpful regarding local area places to eat and things to see. They gave us the opportunity to visit Murano by boat which was very enjoyable and we spent our time there looking around at both the glass factories and museum. Overall we were very pleased with our stay and will most likely will stay here again because it is so accessible.

This was a wonderful property for our stay in Venice. A perfect location, right on the water. What really made our trip outstanding were the staff of the hotel. Everyone was so friendly and helpful in every way. It was also perfect that they had a small bar with a few food options in the evening. The night we checked into our hotel we had flown twenty hours and just wanted to get some food into our system and crash. We had a lovely hour unwinding in the bar with a view of the water and good food before we went up to our rooms for a good night's sleep.

I must say that overall, it was a delightful experience. The location of the hotel is prime, and we loved the direct access for water taxi. The exceptional customer service we received from the staff was one of the highlights of our stay. The staff was friendly and supportive, and as silver members of the Expedia program, we were given extra perks such as free late checkout, free wifi, and a free welcome drink. One of the best parts of our stay was the free tour to a glass factory that the hotel organized for us. It was a unique and interesting experience that we will never forget. The tour guide was knowledgeable and passionate about the history and art of glass-making in Venice. The only downside of our stay was the facilities. The elevator was quite small, which made it difficult to navigate with luggage. Additionally, the hotel's facilities seemed a bit old and in need of renovation. The heating system in our room was poor, and it got quite chilly at night, which made it difficult to sleep comfortably. Overall, the Grand Canal Hotel is an excellent choice for traverlers who are looking for a prime location and exceptional customer service.

Description of room on website and what we got not really what we expected!Room had one window which opened to a small street! LOL.Anyway, location is good if you are coming by train or bus/taxi as the station is less than a km walk away.but its about a 25-30mins walk from st.marco's and all the restaurants/sites/shopping,so be prepared to do LOTS of walking! breakfast was pretty basic.staff were great, especially the housekeepers! if you are using ALILAGUNA,its gonna take you almost 2hrs to get from the airport to st.marco's! by taxi only 20-30mins then a short walk to the hotel
