Unfortunately a very poor hotel which takes advantage of its position which is its only advantage. The hotel is walking distance from the train station. The hotel itself is run down and very shabby. The rooms are tiny and the finishes are dated. Linen was of poor quality and breakfast also very basic. No free wifi. In summary this a...

The service of the hotel was very good and found the staff very helpful. We had a lovely room that overlooked the grand canal. Breakfast was tradional Italian breakfast, various bread, cakes and jam. Overall I would have no hesitation in return to this hotel.

Yes, this hotel could do with some refurbishment but i found this fact added to the charm. The staff were very friendly, comfortable rooms, good breakfast ( especially the croissants). The location was fantastic, close to the bus and train station. Right on the canal so made it easy to find.

Great location overlooking the Grand Canal. Good position for getting to and from airport. Clean, comfortable and warm room with good quality bed linen and towels. The building is very old and in places could do with some refurbishment . Breakfast is continental style with a good selection and plenty of it. .

We booked this as a packages through our travel agent as 4 star Accommodation on the Canal. First impressions from the outside were poor and on entering the reception was met with the pungent smell of sewage and a quite unwelcoming reception. Our too. Was on the 2 no floor and we knew there were no lifts but it was...

Highly recommended. Location was so ideal, close to the ferry and train station. Breakfast was simple and delicious. The speed of the rooms being cleaned was unbelievable - so fast!!! Staff were welcoming and spoke English so there was no trouble communicating. Before travelling to this hotel, we did read the reviews on tripadvisor about suspected bedbugs (so came prepared)...

My rating is based on the question, did we get value for money? I believe we certainly got that. In fact I might have given it a 5 star rating had the Garden been open for use. This had the effect of drastically limiting seating space at the bar, but if you can't find a good bar in Venice you're...

This was our first time in Venice, so did not know what to expect. The greeting we received from the reception on arrival was first class. The accommodation at the hotel was as described when we booked, clean, tidy, and decorated as period. The room was comfortable and warm, which was good for this time of year, (the weather was...

The hotel was nice and clean. It does not look very appealing on the outside but inside it is nice, warm and clean. The furniture and the building were a little old but not too much. The bed was comfortable. The room was cleaned every day. We also had a breakfast which was good enough - croissants, sandwiches, coffee, juice,...

This hotel was excellent for location but as said in other reviews it is in need of some refurbishment to the frontage although it has got character inside. The breakfast was good but the dinning area was a little cramped at busy times. The room was cleaned daily to a decent standard Staff could have been a little more friendly...

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighborhood identity.
