A friend and I shared a room here. We stayed on the ground floor and had access to a beautiful shaded courtyard. The rooms were comfortable and clean and we had our own bathroom and shower. It really is a sanctuary of quietness and tranquillity amidst all the hustle and bustle of Venice. We also used the kitchen quite a... More

I hesitate to praise the Istituto because it may attract the "wrong" sort of guest. For me, it is perfect. It is very quiet, very clean and very secure. But it is not a regular hotel or B&B. It is a religious institute, and nuns live here (in a separate part of the complex). The rooms are large, well lit... More

This is an ideal place to stay if one would like to escape from the tourists hordes. Once passing through the door one is immediately aware of the restful calm of the Istituto with its tranquil courtyards. The staff are all charming and helpful. They do not serve breakfast but there is a kitchen with all amenities for guests use.... More

Arrived after dark and after a bit of an adventure finding the Istituto I was warmly welcomed and shown to my room. Impeccably clean, warm and welcoming. It is a five minute walk to the vaporetta and a few minutes to restaurants and coffee shops - perfect situation. The building is quite secure. A bonus is the communal kitchen where... More

If you want something quiet and simple and don't mind religious icons as décor, I would recommend this as a place to stay in Venice. My room was large and spotlessly clean and the bed was comfortable. No TV and 'wobbly' internet but I fell in love with the Dorsoduro district, which has all of the charm of Venice without... More

Visited Istituto Canossiano early, last summer, with a group of 20 or so, adult students. Rooms were spacious and clean and adequately appointed. Communal kitchenette served our group well, especially those who chose to shop and prepare food in house. Courtyard was lovely and quiet. Dorsoduro location was convenient to vapporetto, shopping, cafes, restaurants, museums, churches, all that Venice offers.

i was attending a summer program at Ca Foscari University and the Istituto Canossiano was recommended. I didn't know what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised. I couldn't quite see where it was on Google maps, but it turns out that the directions on the website are excellent (this is Venice -- what else can they say but "at the... More

I had a lovely few days here in November. Beautiful quiet location, good sized rooms, en suite bathroom with shower (plenty of hot water and towels). The rooms are basic but clean, and beds comfortable. Would recommend its central location - easy to access public transfer and good restaurants/bars nearby. For groups of 10+ they will arrange and serve a... More

Stayed a few nights in October with a group. It is a wonderful old convent; quiet, with a beautiful courtyard. Rooms are monastic and small, but adequate, with a nice desk and shelves. However, there were some serious problems: (1) 2 of the 4 people in my group were bitten by bedbugs; (2) while you could open a door to... More

It was very great and all was very clean. I think when you want something in Venice good go here. The garden was very nice but after going there I had much of mosquito prints. The room was very big and the beds were very soft. You had to go 5minutes till Canal Grande.

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighborhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighborhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighborhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbors exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.
