When booking in Venice you can spend ages on the net - DON'T. Choice Antico Portego and you won't be disappointed. From the railway station this is a easy walk; and it is also close to everything Venice has to offer. Hosts Giorgio and Enrico are so friendly and can supply you with all the advice and directions you need... More

It was our family trip to Italy. The last day we chose to visit Venice. One day is not enough, but if you want to feel the atmosphere, Antico Portego is the right place. Excellent location, cosy atmosphere, kind stuff, clean and quiet room. Everything you need to feel Venice, is at Antico Portego!

beautiful b&b, charming rooms (ours had a terrace), wonderful breakfast and great location. The owners were so helpful and informative, they are the BEST! Close to two vaporettos, away from the crowds by san marco and super easy to get to from train station! We hired a porter at train station to bring our bags - it was great idea.

We had a wonderful stay with our family of 4 in this beautifully restored historical palace. The bathroom was bright, modern and clean, the room was spacious and charming, the breakfast was plentiful with many choices and the fresh cappuccino was delish! Our teen girls slept on the sofa bed which was extremely comfortable with a memory foam style mattress.... More

A very nice hotel in good location. 10 min walk from Piazzale Roma, Rialto bridge and Fondamente Nove (Valporetto to Murano, Burano and Airport). Beautiful rooms, nice, helpful personal and good breakfast. Access to the garden for a coffe or tea. Highly recommended!

Our room, Stella, was beautifully decorated and furnished and was perfect for us. The area where the hotel is located is very quiet in the evenings, which made our stay so much more peaceful. Giorgio and Enrico were extremely hospitable, nothing was too much trouble and their introduction, when we arrived was perfect. Their local knowledge and ability to explain... More

Just had 2.5 days in Venice to find this oasis out of the bustle of tourists. Yet in a bubbly street with cafes, fresh fruits, great shops was a surprise. No hesitation in recommending this stunning b&b. Host and hostess impeccable. Cleanliness above average. Only fault mattress and pillows were too hard for us. Though many Like firm I was... More

Our stay was really comfortable, room called Apollo was spacious, nicely furnished (large & stylish chestand wardrobe helped us to store clothing) with frescos on the ceiling and amazing chandelier. Big restroom had Whirpool tube and all the basic cosmetics. All sourroundig interior details were arranged in venetian style which only deepend our positive mood. Enrico was very helpful, made... We just spent three nights here before Easter. The building is beautiful and nicely set up as a B&B. Georgia and her family do a great job as hosts, providing plenty of support and plenty of space, just the right balance for a B&B. We had an unusual situation with some illness and needed a doctor and some flexibility and... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighborhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighborhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
