The rooms are dirty with mosquito blood scattered over the walls and the ceiling. The same goes for the bathroom which is downstairs through the hallway, crossing the "dining room" . Overall the place is very smelly and a bit trashed. There was no breakfast at all. Only an open pack of old toast. No coffee even after four days... More

Booked one night last minute , not even close what they discribe it. No sign outside, hard to find without gps. They say double room with private bathroom but the bathroom is one flor down than the room ( you need to go on the main stairs to reach the bathroom) Picture's on booking for the room we reserved where... A nice location, walking distance from the main train station and city centre, as well as walking distance from a Vaporetta stop which is nice for when you wander a bit too far and want to get back to where you are staying! Ignore the 'breakfast included' this is actually just days old packaged jam croissants and stale corn flakes.... More

Good hotel from the category B&B, 10 walk to train station, 15 min walk to the center of the city. Like every where in the Italy no one is waiting for you in the apartment and you should always contact the owner to be able enter the place. It's a little bit annoying as you have to wait after a... Quite nice place right in the heart of Venice. It was very close to city centre. Before you go just double check contact details on owner of the property...Staff were quite friendly as well. I would definitely recommend to others.

Very nice stay in the apartment Henry's Haven, which the hotel also owns - located next to the Frari cathedral. The apartment was romantic and also well equiped with dish washer, cookies (!) and stove. The apartment also had a charming small court yard

Good, quiet location in Dorsoduro, about 8 minutes walk from the train-station, 5 from Piazzale Roma (bus-stop). The host Giorgio was very welcoming, quick and correct check-in, always ready to answer your questions. The room was great, the beds too. The breakfast was OK, private bathroom clean and comfortable (although for our room a short walk down the stairs). We... More

Nice friendly place in a very nice location. Nice part of Venice and not too far from bus and train stations. Place was clean and silent. Only thing is that, like many places in Venice, it can be hard to find. Be sure to take the number of the B&B so you can ring them if you can't find it.... More

A friendly place, very conveniently located. Not hard to find - on the left in Calle Basego as you approach along the canal from the bus station, look for number 3610 above door & cockerel plaque on wall. Clean, good-size room with separate bathroom. Staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast very basic but for the price it was adequate. No problem... More

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighborhood identity.
