San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.

We rented the Ai Patrizi apartment in Venezia for 3 nights in March; the apartment matched it's description to a tee, very nice indeed. It was very clean with excellent facilities. The location was perfect for visiting the main sights too. Very lush. When we arrived at the airport we purchased a 72 hour travel card (other time scales available), because we purchased it there we paid a little more for the return airport bus; so for the 4 days we were there we were able to make full use of the vaparettos (water buses) to travel all of the grand canal plus the islands; cost €52. We also purchased an all venice pack for museums and churches. This wasn't such a good deal for us as we visited very few in the end. Check what you want to see before you go as a cheaper option, or pay as you go may suit better; although a pass does put you in a shorter queue! If/when you decide to go on a gondola ride I would recommend going onto the smaller canals rather than the grand canal as there is usually less traffic so more peaceful.

Stayed for 3 nights. The apartments are owned by the same group that owns the Ai Reali Hotel (a luxury hotel located a few blocks away from the Ai Patrizi building). This is quite handy since you get 24/7 service in case you need anything and they helped us book restaurants, transportation, etc. We arrived late at night by water taxi directly to the hotel and they escorted us to the apartments. Our apartment was located on the 2nd floor and I must say that the quality of the furniture, chandeliers and materials in this apartment are out of the ordinary even for a luxury hotel/vacation apartment. We had a dining room, kitchen with dishwasher, huge bedroom, beautiful marble bathroom with double sinks and a terrace as well. Everything was spotless and very clean! The building has a good elevator and we felt safe at all times. Location is amazing, a few meters to Rialto Bridge on one direction and a few meters on the other to Piazza San Marco. We walked everywhere and there are plenty of restaurants, shops, etc in the area. Highly recommended!!

My wife, daughter and I had a short fun trip to Venice and based on the reviews I read, I decided to book an apartment at Ai Patrizi. Our flight was late to Venice but once we arrived at the hotel to pick up our keys, the hotel had someone walk us to the apartment, which was only 5 minutes on foot. We had a one bedroom apartment on the 2nd floor and it was a beautiful apartment with wonderful decor, really high ceilings, modern appliances and heating sytems. It also had a sleeper sofa bad, which we didn't need as the king sized bed was so roomy and comfortable. Finally, there was also a quaint outdoor patio and chairs (no view in this unit though). At nights I didn't hear anything which allowed for a restful night of sleep. This apartment is beautiful and everything was spot on! And check out was simply leaving the keys in the apartment and we were off! We will definitely stay there again and perhaps book a higher floor apartment! Thanks for making our stay so satisfying!

as the name says. Stayed with my husband and son. One bedroom with a large separate living room with kitchen. Bathroom is entirely marble! Nice and clean. This quality with this space for the price is great. However, one thing I would like to say is that this is an apartment not a hotel. No 24 hour reception. During the certain hours (say, 9 to 6?), there was a nice lady situated with a desk with a computer very close to the entrance. She was very helpful. If something happens outside the service hours, you need to make a call (say if you lock the room door without having a key etc.). Since my son was a little sick that day, I was concerned about the situation. You should keep that in mind. Other than that, this place was great, Location is good - a few minutes from Rialto bridge and maybe 5 minutes walk to St. Marco although no water view from the hotel.

Thank you for pointing out the fact that Ai Patrizi di Venezia is not an hotel but please note that our guests can call 24/7 the number you mentioned, linked directly to our sister hotel - Ai Reali di Venezia - always available to help and located close by. We're also delighted to see that you enjoyed our central location, next to Rialto Bridge and close to St. Mark's Square. Looking forward to welcoming you again soon, Kind Regards, Dott.sa E. Last minute booking at this location, We were fortunate enough to have the apartment with a private balcony. The apartment its self consisted of en-suite, kitchenette and dining area with private balcony. all of a very high standard, spacious and very comfortable. The decor is exactly what you;d expect for a classic Venetian apartment, big glass chandeliers, fabric covered walls, sumptuous furnishings and a very comfy bed! The apartments are located centrally in the San Marco District and are about 5 minutes walk from St Mark's Square and the Rialto Bridge (unless of course to choose to get lost!!). The area is full of restaurants, nice shops, wonderful piazzas with super cafes. Reception staff really helpful and friendly, despite the worst flooding in Venice for a couple of decades. Would definitely recommend staying here, and would book again if we return to Venice. So why not 5 stars? A small niggle that was little disappointing, we were charged a cleaning tariff of some 40 Euro for our 3 day which we were not expecting, each day someone emptied the bins and put the dishwasher on, however beds were not made and towels not replaced.

Dear Ian G, We're delighted to see our apartments so much appreciated, as well as the private balcony, the dining area and the original Venetian decors all over the place. Thank you for pointing our central location out, just few minutes away from the major sights Venice has to offer. We're grieved about the cleaning fee - we always highlight it as much as possible everywhere during the booking process. We are sorry you didn't see it before your arrival. Looking forward to having you back in the future, Kind Regards, Dott.sa E. Baroldi, Marketing & Communication, Historical Palaces & Hotels
