My wife and I stayed at Hotel Al Sole in Venice from September 27-30, 2016, at the beginning of our honeymoon. We had a wonderful canal view on the second floor of the hotel (the room with the flagpoles - definitely a great location) that was very large and spacious. The bed in the room was acceptable at the price...

Lovely hotel really conveniently situated. Didn't have to wrestle across loads of bridges with the luggage as it's about five minutes walk from the bus station. The area round about is quiet which we really liked but plenty of bars and restaurants close by. You could get everywhere on foot so no need to be right in the centre which...

Charming boutique hotel in an old palace. Very friendly and accommodating staff. It is in a great central location for exploring the city on foot. A convenient short walk from the stop for the airport bus and cruise port transport. Although not equipped with a formal restaurant there is a good continental breakfast buffet and many great restaurants in the...

Nice hotel, lovely friendly staff. We had great rooms on the first floor overlooking the canal. The rooms and simple but full of character. The breakfast was pleasant and they didn't mind us having champagne on the day for our friends 50th!!

This hotel has great kerb appeal, and so it should being a 500yr old palazzo after all. The reception area is very pleasant and the reception staff are very helpful and welcoming. Unfortunately the hotel shows its age as soon as you walk up the stairs to what should be the piano nobile. The rooms are very poorly fitted out...

A lovely hotel, 5 min walk from the coach station and waterbus stop. Good reasonable restaurants within yards of the hotel.Rooms nice and clean and the buffet breakfast was good. Staff very friendly and helpful. On our checkout day, one of our group was ill and they were very supportive in allowing us to wait in the hotel lounge until...

Stayed only 1 night last year and returned for 6 nights in October. Fabulous hotel-could not fault it. Only 3 bridges to negotiate from railway station to the hotel and 1 of those has a ramp on 1 side- this is invaluable with luggage. Room charming, we had larger 1 than last year on 2nd floor. Shower over bath. Spotlessly...

We arrived at the hotel for a 3 night stay and was advised by the hotel reception that there had been an electricity problem in our room and hotel was fully booked so for our first night of stay we were sent to another near by hotel. On return to hotel the next day we were upgraded on our room...

The room is very small, no plugs near the bed heads, no tissues or welcome note in the room..it is a photocopied paper. The room is cold, and windows give on other windows. Breakfast is generous, with bread, toasts, cheese, orange juice is not fresh thought. Croissants are great! The breakfast place is welcoming and feels homey! Great to begin...

We stayed here after a 10 day cruise out of Venice. The hotel was very quaint, the staff were very helpful & our room overlooked a canal. The breakfast was okay and more than enough food provided o get you going. Our room was a nice size however the furniture was dated. The bathroom could have done with a good...

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighborhood identity.
