My wife & I have just returned from a 4 night stay at the Al Sole. We arrived on Monday 24th having booked a superior room with a canal view. Room 303 was at the front of the building above the flag poles. We arrived in the evening, the room was hot inside so I switched on the air conditioning...

Just got back from a 3 night stay here in Venice. You cannot get better value for location, literally 1 minute to piazzle Roma for bus station/ train/ vaporetto. Reception staff were extremely friendly and helpful, porter was a little odd! Room was basic and small with no wardrobe space, but clean, comfortable and very quiet. We would have liked...

My wife stayed here in the summer so I booked it again for our visit together but whereas she had a lovely, big, room on the 2nd floor, this time we had a small, poky, room on the first floor. It was reasonably comfortable but there was nowhere to put your suitcase such that you weren't in danger of tripping...

The hotel is nothing special but the staff is great and the location is key. Its great if you come to town for a cruise or don't want to rely on water transportation. Its close to everything giving you plenty of options.

We spent two nights at this fine hotel. From the time we checked in to the time we left all the staff were wonderful. The rooms were clean and we had no problems. The breakfast was included in our room rate. The food was fresh and plentiful. The only thing I would improve on would be to make the lighting...

A most enjoyable 3 night break at this very good hotel in a very convenient location close to the bus terminus and railway station which is much easier than struggling through the narrow streets and crossing bridges with luggage. Rooms are very clean and the bed comfy with cotton sheets. The staff are friendly and welcoming. An ideal base from...

We enjoyed our 3 night stay in this hotel. It is situated in a quiet location less than 10 minutes walk from the bus station in Piazzale Roma, from where you can also get water buses to all parts of the city. Alternatively you can walk to St Mark's Square in about 25 minutes. We visited with our grown up...

We stayed 4 nights at the Hotel Al Sole, Throughout our stay we were made very welcome by the friendly and helpful staff. The interior of the hotel may have the look of faded grandeur ,but the rooms are spotlessly clean and the beds very comfortable with fresh linen daily. The breakfast buffet was good ,especially the coffee. We found...

My husband and I stayed at Hotel Al Sole during our first trip to Venice. The hotel is lovely, with friendly and informative staff. Hotel Al Sole is a 10 minute walk from the main bus depot. Our taxi from the airport was able to drop us off there, but we needed to lug our bags over three stair bridges....

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighborhood identity.
