We arrived at Marco Polo airport and got a bus onto Venice island. From there we decided to take the vaporetto Line 1 (takes an hour) down the Grand Canal to the stop by the hotel. If you have time I strongly recommend doing this - it's a wonderful introduction to Venice. We arrived at sunset and it was perfect.... More

Spent 3 nights with the family at this wonderful hotel. We were eleven, aged 5 to 65. A pleasant walk to the center of town, we were very comfortable in a quiet neighborhood with parks and local eateries and steps from the water bus.. Very clean and accommodating. I would recommend this hotel to anyone that wants great and peaceful.

Great atmosphere, lovely front desk staff and waiters, organised our trip to Murano island. Fantastic buffet breakfast. A proper 4 star with in room facilities like coffee making and robes, slippers. Would recommend.

A nice little hotel in Venice. close by the river boat and a 20 minutes walk to the main areas. the advantage is being on the main island but not in the busy part so it is quiet. nice rooms. i recommand it

everything is good. The location is far away from city center but near the water bus station. In addition, is there no exhaust fan or similar fan in the bath room? After a shower, I can not bear the high temperature. Unfortunately, there is no room upgrade depending on the situation of fully-booked. The restaurant of the hotel is excellent.... More

We booked 3 nights at Best Western and was not disappointed. The hotel was situated in a quiet place at the end of Venice st Elena which a lovely place, quiet and away from all the hussle and bustle. It was easy reach with a water taxi which was easy enough to work out and get around, we bought a... More

Went to Venice in July and didn't want to be in the center of the town as it is so crowded. Decided to try out this hotel. A 20 minute walk to the center along the water. Was worth it. Neighborhood was quiet and peaceful. Hotel was excellent. We were there when there was a heat spell and the A/C... More

Our stay at the hotel was surprisingly positive, thinking the low prices comparing with other hotels in Venice. Of course staying here, you will need a 30 mins walk to reach the centre, but the hotel itself is a small gem. Spacious rooms, clean, nicely decorated, comfortable beds with great air conditioning, water and a beautiful view. The breakfast was... More

We stayed here for three nights. The room was spacious and very well equipped. The weather was hot but our room was cool. There was a garden which was pleasant apart from the mosquitoes! Nearby were trees and a wooded area for more shade. The restaurant provided delicious breakfasts and had a good menu for evening meals. When it was... More

Clean, comfortable, well appointed hotel in a quiet location away from all the crowds. Only 2 minute walk from Sant'Elena waterbus stop so good access to the rest of Venice's attractions, it was a relief to be able to get away from the multitudes packing the centre. The hotels' restaurant was excellent, and their breakfast was substantial, with wide choice.

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
