Palaces and piazzas. Gondolas and gelato. Canals and Carnevale. Beaches and Biennale. There is no destination quite so unique – and quite so magical – as Venice, a wondrous floating city in north-eastern Italy. Hotel Indigo® Venice – Sant’Elena is at the heart of the neighborhood, a converted 1930s monastery where the peaceful inner garden offers further respite from the bustle. Venice is a fairy-tale of a city with palaces, cathedrals and museums to take your breath away. In our neighborhood you can get your breath back again. It’s a place where you can escape the noise and bustle, experience genuine local life, and feel refreshed. This is a neighborhood of true tranquillity.

Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.

Very nice hotel, great location away from the hectic buzz of Venice, slow check in with too much chit chat & lengthy wait for system to crank up, nice room but tight space around bed whilst lots of space around desk area, good bathroom although I hate showers in baths nowadays, excellent hairdryer, fab air con, nice refurb from best western hotel. Tried to buy a drink in the bar but they couldn’t take cash, you had to pay at reception. The hotel seems to be struggling to embed IHG systems but it didn’t cause too much of a problem. Loved the fact that the hotel was in a more residential area with a few good local restaurants that were great VFM & away from the maddening crowds of Venice! Only a stone’s throw from the Sant Elena waterbus stop.

I stayed in this hotel for 2 nights in June. Great location in green part of the island, very quiet and clean. This is big advantage after long walks in the beautiful city of Venice where you can see only stones, water and millions of tourists. One may say that it’s outside of Venice but the walking distance (15 min walk to St Marco) is not a problem. Also the vaporetto stop just across the park is great asset. The hotel itself is nice with green courtyard inside. Hotel rooms are big and clean, bathroom with good water pressure. Cleaned every day Receptionists helpful and kind. The bar staff quick. The breakfast needs to be improved but ok. in the continental option. I truly recommend this place while visiting Venice.

just spent 2 days there in June 19 booking 2 rooms. Checkin was painful the staff wanting too make small talk while copy passports and re confirming my booking back to me several times. took over 5 mins to get the keys cut. I am an IHG spire elite and this was the slowest ever check-in at an IHG property. I was on a prepaid non refundable rate so no idea why the hotel admin does not pre prep the paperwork. The recent upgrade from best western to ihg indigo brand is very basic. A lick of paint, remodelling of the dinning room and new showers. The rest is all the old stuff. When we went out for a few hours came back to our room and the ceiling air conditioning unit had failed. The unit had spewed water all over the room. our cases were under and covered in the water. contents now damp. Hotel moved us next door to another room where the aircon never really did much apart from blow air and produce noise. Why on earth IHG did not insist on new units in a city that regularly gets over 30 degrees. The so called refurb is not really worth it. On day of checkout asked if I could keep one of my two rooms till 2pm and was told no way but maybe 12.00. pointed out that was normal checkout and staff became defensive. would I come back no but the hotel is fine if you are looking for 3 star quality.

We often stay in indigo hotels and from the write up we understood that this hotel was newly refurbished. Our room 314 had a roof terrace and this was a bonus , although some of the furniture did not have cushions and was impossible to sit on. The bathroom is on the small side and not enough space to put down toiletries. The downstairs area was very old fashioned and the paintwork in areas shabby and badly maintained. On checking out we were told that this room has not been updated ...should we not have been told this on arrival!? We felt that the room was overpriced considering it still needs to be updated.
