Palaces and piazzas. Gondolas and gelato. Canals and Carnevale. Beaches and Biennale. There is no destination quite so unique – and quite so magical – as Venice, a wondrous floating city in north-eastern Italy. Hotel Indigo® Venice – Sant’Elena is at the heart of the neighborhood, a converted 1930s monastery where the peaceful inner garden offers further respite from the bustle. Venice is a fairy-tale of a city with palaces, cathedrals and museums to take your breath away. In our neighborhood you can get your breath back again. It’s a place where you can escape the noise and bustle, experience genuine local life, and feel refreshed. This is a neighborhood of true tranquillity.

Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.

I absolutely loved staying at Hotel Indigo. Santa Elena is not walkable to all the major tourist sites. But if you walk into the park, loads of cute restaurants and a true residential neighborhood. I truly loved staying there. The restaurant choices are limited in the area, and at the hotel- but a nightly glass of wine- perfect. The rooms are modern and spotless. Loved the bathroom decor. A two minute walk from your ferry drop.

Nice friendly staff, great rooms and tasty food. Situated in an calm area, easily reachable from the center of Venice. But off the main paths, which is a bless. Easily reachable with boat. Warm welcoming and a garden!!

We were upgraded to the junior suite upon arrival and although check in wasn’t ready until 2pm, the staff were super friendly and couldn’t be more helpful. We were recommended different restaurants and offered to join a free membership which enabled us to receive a free welcome drink each which of course we took advantage of! The rooms were spacious, clean and beautifully designed. The hotel was not located near the centre, it is a lovely walk to the centre and I would definitely recommend to walk instead of taking the water buses. We all really enjoyed our stay and would recommend this to every traveller. Thank you so much for so a wonderful stay.

We have just returned from a 4-night stay in this superb hotel. We can't imagine staying anywhere else now on future short breaks in Venice. It was perfection: the staff were wonderful - friendly, helpful and very knowledgeable. The building and its stylish and comfortable decor were superb. The breakfasts, all bar food and drinks were perfection. Our room could not have been more welcoming, luxurious and comfortable: on the third floor with a lovely view of the garden and side canal. Sant'Elena is an unspoiled, quiet, residential area of Venice but it takes only about 20 minutes to walk along the lagoon side to central Venice. It is extremely well-served by the ACTV vaporetti. In short: a giant thank you to Francesca and all her colleagues for a magnificent experience. You will see us again! In the meantime, we will tell all our friends about you!

Although this hotel may seem far from central Venice, this gave us an opportunity to walk the entire island(s). Because the hotel is at the far end, we ended up walking from one side to another a few times. We took a private boat to the airport when we returned, which was very efficient but a bit expensive. The staff was unbelievably helpful with all our requests, they really went above and beyond. The restaurant/bar is beautiful and serves a great breakfast. Also, the drink selection is great for an evening drink. Overall highly recommended.
