The Gray is like a beautiful man or woman but lacks the substance that keeps you interested. While greeted with a smile in other hotels in Italy, the hotel staff here seems to be lacking in personality and life altogether. Nothing depressed us more than passing in the lobby with no one to open the door and no greeting despite... More

The room was very small. There was not much space for clothes. No place to put our bags. Bad smell in the Lobby. One of the three days we were there there was no water in the shower. Breakfast is ok in a nice place Location is excelent. Deco is nice Standars reception staff

We stayed only one night, and wanted to be centrally located. Location was perfect, on the doorstep of all fantastic things to see in the centre of Milan. For EUR 280 per double room, our expectations were set at a high level. However, (a) whilst room was nicely designed it did not work perfectly....for example, the A/C was very noisy... More

Ok you can't change the room sizes which are small, or the tiny bar, or tiny lobby. The staff are lovely. However €38 euros for breakfast is taking the mickey, not to offer an iron in your room is just not right for business travellers, and why does a Becks beer cost €9 in the mini bar, and water €5.50?... Was expecting something much better due to its great location. The lobby and the breakfast area are tiny. Nice and polite staff always ready to help in any way possible, it has a great location (2 min walking to duomo and 10 min by car to central train station). I stayed in this hotel for one night , would i... More

I came with a high expectation but finally I wasn't impressed. The decoration and style is very nice, but the quality overall not great, service could be also better. The location is great, very close to the Duomo and I have to say that breakfast selection and quality was very good!

I do not recommend it at all. When traveling on business getting a good sleep is critical. My room is 28 degrees and when asked for the A/C was told it was not working and that I should leave the window open ( and let all the noise from outside bother me even more). Asked also for an iron to... More

Looks like that it is very easy to get stars for hotels in Milan. Reception, lobby (there is none) dining room room sizes are far away from a 5 star hotel but it says that it is 5 Star hotel. Its only advantage it is centrally located. It is at Duomo and just behind La Rinascente. It can only be... More

The hotel is certainly in an ideal place - tucked around the corner from the Duomo in a street that is bustling during the day but quiet at night. It is also well decorated and modern. Unfortunately that is where it ends... a) it is well lit but untimely cramped and claustrophobic - the corridors are narrow, the breakfast room... More

I had a room booked in this hotel for 6 nights whilst in Milan for business. The initial thoughts when i arrived were that this is a small hotel (21 rooms in total) so the service is most likely to be impeccable. The reception desk always seems to be in subdued lighting. The staff are attentive and will try to... More

Staying in Centro Storico

Neighborhood Profile
Centro Storico
The pulsating core of Milan is in Centro. Duomo Square is enclosed by the gothic cathedral, the historic icon of Milan. However, shopping is what draws most crowds to this area. The classy and versatile Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II with luxury boutiques and high quality restaurants will turn any shopping or lunch expedition into a royal experience. Head to the rooftop of the flagship La Rinascente to enjoy the view of the animated square with a panorama of the Duomo. The Corso Vittorio Emanuele II is the street for high-end shopping. Brands of all kinds and street artists attract the attention of all visitors; while at Via Santa Radegonda 16, Luini Panzerotti is a much appreciated street food shop providing unimaginable culinary experiences. If shopping takes its toll on you, consider visiting Castello Sforzesco, a 15th century castle housing several museums. Those looking to relax can go to Parco Sempione, where nature provides respite from the energy of this dynamic and international city.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
A gem of a hotel in the heart of Milan, where stunning contemporary design meets sophistication and comfort. The Gray, with just 21 individually decorated rooms, is an intimate property full of style, an d includes an atmospheric restaurant, a cosy bar and bedrooms, some of which have their own private gym. Smart, witty design elements throughout add to the sense of elegance and comfort. Deep chocolate browns contrast with crisp creams, geometric lines are softened by colored lighting effects, while bright colour accents, such as the suspended fuchsia swing in the lobby, enliven the ambience. An afternoon of sightseeing could not be easier as the Duomo is literally at the end of the street and the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele is in front of the hotel. A five-minute walk takes you to the fashion district around Via Monte Napoleone. Return to the hotel for delicious Mediterranean cuisine in the restaurant before heading to the opera. The Gray is a Small Luxury Hotels of the World property. ... more   less
