Perfect location, classical Italian hospitality. Elegant without being pompous, sometimes challenging but eventually rewarding, like the country... Located at the upper floors in patrician building, the hotel offers great rooms carefully and simply decorated. Freshly prepared breakfast and therefore with a limited choice of dishes. This is the way should be or choose one of the international hotels for buffet,...

We stayed in a large first-floor (U.S. 2nd floor) room with no balcony, but it had the same high ceilings and wooden beams, as well as two tall windows with a view of the pretty side street (each window a double set to block traffic noise). The desk agent allowed us into the room well before check-in time when she...

And old building with all the serenity, class and elegance of a manor but with all the modern details you may need. Big room, a charming balcony with plants and flowers, silent, very good light, always impecable. Perfectly located, just 4-5 blocks from the Duomo. Good breakfast and the most outstanding staff: efiicient, kind and always anticipating your needs.

The hotel is all located just close to the Duomo and Brera (both 5 - 10 minutes away) with the subway close at hand. It is situated in a very old building on the 1st floor and it is quit small and comfortable. The service is very friendly and the rooms are big. Only the bed was bit short for...

We loved our stay here and would book again. The included breakfast and the location are highlights. We also had great interactions with everyone that works there. Although we had a beautiful patio, the room itself was pretty small, so not all rooms look like the pictures.

Nice large modern rooms high ceiling great central location tucked in a narrow street. Friendly staff no negatives at all probably not good if you have a hard time cobelstones walking quiet rooms, great bed, shower not bath, upper floors have balconies but as it was Christmas and cool and we don't spend time in the room during the day...

This 15-room romantic hotel is a gem. I almost don't want to write about it so it stays the same: quiet, perfect location, amazing service and the rooms are very spacious in this old (renovated) palace. Breakfast has everything one needs too

Visited this small hotel first time some 8 years ago and now again. Liked it then and now even more. Excellent location, big stylish rooms, friendly personnel and great breakfast. Good choice! Will definitely go back.

It was a lovely experience in more than one way to stay at Antica Locanda dei Mercanti in that it felt as if one was at home in a lovely 'home' but it was also very professionally managed. The staff was friendly, helpful , cheerful and concerning. The rooms are all individually decorated and interesting and tasteful, yet comfortable. I...

We arrived from Australia and our first accommodation was Antica Locanda dei Mercanti. Great location in the north of the city centre, close to transport and the Castello Sforzesco and its park. Excellent service. The room was functional and had an attractive terrace that was an excellent place to sit and read (snooze) when the jet lag hit in mid-afternoon.

Staying in Centro Storico

Neighborhood Profile
Centro Storico
The pulsating core of Milan is in Centro. Duomo Square is enclosed by the gothic cathedral, the historic icon of Milan. However, shopping is what draws most crowds to this area. The classy and versatile Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II with luxury boutiques and high quality restaurants will turn any shopping or lunch expedition into a royal experience. Head to the rooftop of the flagship La Rinascente to enjoy the view of the animated square with a panorama of the Duomo. The Corso Vittorio Emanuele II is the street for high-end shopping. Brands of all kinds and street artists attract the attention of all visitors; while at Via Santa Radegonda 16, Luini Panzerotti is a much appreciated street food shop providing unimaginable culinary experiences. If shopping takes its toll on you, consider visiting Castello Sforzesco, a 15th century castle housing several museums. Those looking to relax can go to Parco Sempione, where nature provides respite from the energy of this dynamic and international city.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Locanda is an unexpected oasis of peace and quiet in Milan’s frenetic city centre. The elegant 18th century building is in a pedestrian area dedicated to shopping.Once you arrive you can forget your car – you’re in the very heart of Milan, close to La Scala opera house, the Duomo, the Stock Exchange, and the famous designer stores on via Monte Napoleone and via della Spiga. The décor is the creation of architect Vittorio Locatelli, who loves combining refined warm pastel hues with rough, natural materials, following his fancy wherever it takes him. His intention was to furnish the Locanda so that people would feel they were at home. He designed four suggestive rooms, each with a beautiful flower-filled terrace, a rare occurrence in a city like Milan. The atmosphere throughout is pleasant and relaxed, and prompt personalised service is guaranteed. ... more   less
