we are two couples and stayed here October 18th. Only one member of staff spoke English, but tried to be helpful. Showers are impossibly tiny. Breakfast was an insult, day old rolls and barely enough for number of guests. Breakfast room so small you could barely sit at a table. No lounge. Only thing going for it was its location.... More

Good - The staff spoke little English but did everythng they could to help us in any way possible. The location was excellent - right in the heart of historic Milan. Metro, tours, food one block away. The rooms aren't fancy but clean and well maintained. Bad - Noise from the street early in the morning. It is a small... More

I´ve been in 4 hotels in Italy during November, and this one was the more expensive and the worse. The lights into the room are like an Irish Pub, very dark. It´s impossible to get a shower if you more than 50 cm of width. There´s no frigobar and you must pay for internet (no wireless). Our room (nº 103)... More

This site warned me but I thought Frommer would have a better idea of a good hotel. I stayed one night and left. I wouldn't stay here again if it were free.

This was our last night after a 2 week trip, and we booked this hotel due to Frommers' review - the only almost reasonably priced rooms available in the Brera area. Suffice to say the place was a dump!! The room was very shabby, the decor was ancient Salvation Army style, the bathroom was so dirty and the shower stall... More

This is truly a budget hotel but the price and Frommer's review would suggest otherwise. The rooms are painted a depressing shade of green and if you stay in a room on the street the noise level is high. It's not necessarily high traffic but everything echos loudly. Only plus is that the room is spacious compared to other places... More

We read a review of the Rovello in The Rough Guide and were shocked with the reality we encountered. The rooms were not pleasing. They were underlit and painted a depressing pale green. The lamps were nailed down (as was everything in the room). The first night my husband and I were on the first floor next to the breakfast... More

We booked this hotel following a review in the Frommers guide, it has clearly changed management since the glowing write up that inspired us to stay there. The lift was out of order, the receptionist claimed no knowledge of this mal function, simply shrugged and said we'd have to use the stairs, to our room...... a twin room that certainly... More

We selected the Hotel Rovello for a three night stay in early October based on a description in Frommer's guidebook. The location is fantastic -- just a few minutes walk from the Via Dante pedestrian mall which connects the Duomo and the castle, and walking distance to the train station for the Malpensa express airport train. It is tucked away... More

We arrived on a cold rainy September night at midnight. The hotel is lobby is on the second floor of what seems to be an office building. The elevator stank of urine. The front desk guy was perfectly polite, but gave us the creeps. The room was clean but depressing. We were exhausted so we weren't about to find another... More

Staying in Brera

Neighborhood Profile
Brera
Brera captures the real essence of the city. It is an excellent mix between history and modernity, where tradition meets innovation. Here design and beauty reign. On Via Brera there are the famous Pinacoteca (galleries), the National Gallery of Modern and Antique Art, and the Academy of Fine Arts. Interior design boutiques and intellectual cafes are typical of the district. Walking along Via Madonnina is a must to admire the architecture of buildings and the design stores. On Sundays, going to the local market is an unmissable opportunity for fashion, style and art. Tucked away, there is the Orto Botanico di Brera botanical garden that seems like a painting framed in an ancient fairy structure. Last but not least, it’s worth a visit to Giardini Pubblici Indro Montanelli with its Planetarium, the Civico Museo di Storia Naturale (Natural History Museum).
