Very nice stay at Hotel Berna, only a block or so from Milano Centrale train station. We used the station 5 consecutive days, so this was very nice to be so close. Our room was smallish, but normal for Italy. Shower had huge rainfall head and separate hand-held. Stayed on top 5th floor. Never had to wait for one of the two elevators (2 people max). Staff ALL were excellent. Happy hour host went out of his way to make our time enjoyable. Breakfast was very good. Have yet to see a bad breakfast layout in Italy ! Will stay here again when in Milan -- Highly Recommend

The hotel is about a 5-minute walk from the Milano Centrale train station; great location on a quiet street that has restaurants nearby. The room was smallish (17sf), but what was so nice is that they asked what amenities we would like in the room: beverages, type of blanket, type of pillows (request the wool pillows; they were so comfortable and we fell asleep right away), and even the type of toilet paper (soft vs fragranced). The breakfast buffet was immense with fresh fruit, cold cuts, eggs, hot meat, cereals, pastries, coffees, teas, juices, and cappuccinos on request. Do not miss the apple cake or the freshly pressed carrot juice. Staff was so personable!

I needed a place to stay for a night after arriving at Malpensa and before taking the train to Florence. I could not have made a better choice. The hotel is comfortable and immaculately clean and the staff is very accommodating. I highly recommend it.

Enjoyed our stay at the Hotel. Very conveniently located to everything we wanted to experience in Milan. Very responsive and friendly front desk staff. I would most definitely stay at the Berna again.

The only good thing about the hotel is it's location & that's where it pretty much ends. A very small hotel with very small rooms & the most pathetic of all is the service & welcome you get at the reception. Beware of the receptionist named Enrico who's 'I don't care a damn' attitude says it all. He is so rude that he doesn't even bother replying to any ques/requests you have. He will just shrug his shoulders & give you a stern look if you try and ask him anything. We were a couple & had requested for an early check-in along with a double bed (very normal requests I would presume), however when we reached after a 14 hr flight, not only were we not given an early check-in and were asked to wait till the normal 3 pm check-in time, when we actually got the room it was with twin beds. The room was so small that if you open your luggage (2 suitcases for 2 people), there is no space for you to move around. All in all a really pathetic exp which made our Milan visit an unforgettable one - in a bad way. Stay away from this hotel!!

Response from Sharon Mariani, Guest Services / Front Office at Hotel Berna
Responded 3 days ago
Dear Travelman Neeraj, We are very saddened to know your experience has so failed your expectations, with the only exception of our position (which is actually very strategic). Fortunately we could trace your booking and therefore we are able to give you a timely response on the critical issues you have reported. Starting from the room size issue, regardless of the channel chosen to insert the reservation, the descriptions of the different types of rooms, including the sizes, are always punctual: in this way the guest can always evaluate the most congenial solution and obviously if he/she should evaluate that our size does not meet his/her needs, even freely opting for a different property. Regarding the request for a room with a queen bed, if the request is made at the time of booking we can always satisfy it. When, on the other hand, no preference is indicated, by default it is assumed that both a double bed and 2 separate beds are suitable. In this specific case, there was no indication about your preference for a kind bed rather than 2 separate ones. This does not mean you are not telling the truth but simply that we have never received such a request neither by the portal nor the travel agency/tour operator used to insert your reservation (we have double checked both the booking details transmitted by the portal and the email confirmation sent by the travel agency). Just a pity you didn't warn us when you were still in the hotel: since you stayed 2 nights, if at least you had told us that you preferred a double bed we would have changed your room or joined the two beds with the addition of a double topper. Unfortunately, we never even received the request for early check-in. If only we had known that you needed a check-in before 3pm we would have given priority to cleaning the room or, if it had been an essential condition, we would have advised you to book a night in advance However, I am pleased to see that you completed your check-in at 13:36 so, at the end, we still managed to alleviate your discomfort. Having clarified these points, what we really cannot agree with is your opinion about our colleague Enrico. Enrico would never, ever answer that way, being undoubtedly a polite and respectful person, always ready to assist the guest in the best possible way. If he was unable to offer you another room (a solution he never hesitated to adopt when a guest arrives earlier than the normal check-in time) it is because there was no other room ready. Ours is not a blind defense: we have always welcomed any criticism or suggestion, admitting our mistakes and sometimes limitations, convinced that they are precious opportunities to improve ourselves. But a rude Enrico, even in the worst of his days, just no ... At this point, since there are several requests that have not be transmitted to the hotel, we recommend that you contact the agency or the portal you used to understand what may have happened. Kind regards Sharon

We picked this hotel based on its proximity to the central train station. Unfortunately the area was a little rough. We did not like being out after dark. As far as the actual hotel room, it was very quiet and clean. The shower and bed was good. Breakfast buffet was pretty good. My only complaint about the room was that we could not control the temperature in the room. To change the thermostat, you had to call the front desk.

Very gentle service team, rooms are clean and tidy. Very warm and friendly atmosphere. Rooms on the first floor are a bit dark, so would recommend to choose upper floors. Fantastic breakfast, very tasty and big variety of choice. Very small but nice and pleasant feature of this hotel is that there is a personalised greeting card waiting you in a room and a cozy rubber duck toy as symbol of hotel and a gift for you. Very much recommend!

Good location near Milano Centrale, right down a quiet street. The rooms are simple but clean. Even the Superior room I had was lacking the little extras for well-being. The bed is comfortable tho. I had a good sleep. The bathroom has been renovated recently. Breakfast was good and continuously refilled with a varied selection and a great coffee service. The staff at breakfast were on top of everything. Stayed four nights. Everything was good.
