We were on the train to La Spezia from Genova when unfortunately a person decided to take their life which led to the train first being delayed by many hours and eventually cancelled. The owner of the guesthouse, who we informed immediately about our delay when it first occured was reluctant to give us a refund. Original arrival time was discussed to be at 1930 and when we informed him about us being late (at ca. 1800) he immediately said that we should look for another place to stay. Terrible customer service in a force majeur situation where responsibility should not rest on the guests but the host. We didn’t end up staying the night at Cinque Terre Gateway so cannot say anything about cleanliness of the guesthouses facilities - this review is purely based on the terrible customer service experience provided to us by the host.…
If you plan to visit Cinque Terre, this should be your place to stay. After a few minutes, you will feel like you are visiting family. Michele is super friendly and helpful. Give you a lot of local advice and guidance. The rooms are very spacious and comfortable. The entire place is designed contemporary with great taste. We like this place very much and will recommend it to all our friends and family. Thank you, Michele, for making our visit unforgettable!
My husband and I like to stay in stylish, more upscale places, well the Cinque Terre Gateway is just the most perfect hotel we could get. Amazing location, super clean and modern rooms and excellent service. The rooms are very well equipped, comfortable and of course the beautiful view over the colorful houses from our bed. We had breakfast, where the staff is so polite, knowledgeable, detailed and attentive and the food was absolutely delicious!!! Very reasonable prices, it worth every penny! Definitely recommend for anyone who likes high end services! We will surely return!!
Accomodations were lovely with modern bathrooms and comfortable beds and were very clean. Breakfast is served was delicious. Front desk staff was friendly and helpful in planning our activities. However the highlight of our hotel stay was Elisa. It was great to spend time with her as she was very cordial, friendly and she was so focused on keepingus happy and pleased with her service..Elisa is an asset to the hotel! This hotel was perfect to use as our base to explore the Cinque Terre..truly a magical part of Italy and so easily accessible from the hotel with the train station just a minute walk! La Spezia itself was a great place to explore with many cafes and shops closeby. Will definitely stay here again.
The hotel is a stone throw from the train station. Literally a 2 minute walk. Lovely friendly, clean and spacious place. Rooms are spotless. Bathroom was massive with everything you need. Breakfast is great, very varied and fresh. Waitress was very helpful, in fact all staff couldn't do enough for you. Short walk into the main town (5 mins) where there is plenty to see and do. Great place, would certainly visit again. Recommended!!
Definitely not a hotel. Maximum a host. Despite the good location, its is in an old building where there are much other rooms for rent. I arrived by night at 20pm and there was no one to receive us. At the time of my arrival, i called the "hotel" number and the person who answer the phone didn't want to make the check in saying that it was only until 19:30h. Even knowing tha i was with children!! I had to rent another apartment to spend the night and only the next day make the check in. Morning coffee is service in a bar that stays in the square next to the building. Bad experience !!! I DO NOT recommend
Busy, infrastructure can’t cope with the vast tourism. We took the Cinque Terre train from La Spezia. La Spezia looks mainly industrial so I was glad that we didn’t base ourselves there. Not impressed with Cinque Terre as an area. Would have been better without the volume of people but also I was expecting stunningly beautiful, and it just isn’t. It may have been quaint without everyone else there but any charm is lost. Over priced, dirty in parts and overly busy
This is a very nice B&B located in the heart of La Spezia close to the train station. The room is very much better than hotel rooms, especially the spacious and upgraded bathroom. Since this is a B&B, there are restrictions that you have to follow and do not assume they are the same as hotels. You have to check-in before 7:30pm, otherwise you have to inform them in advance or you'll get charged EUR75 (mentioned in their website). Finding the B&B in the old building was quite challenging. We saw the big sign on the right wall of the building but we were confused with the name 'Cinque Terre Bridge' on the doorbell. However someone happened to open the huge door and we just went in. Once inside the building, there's no sign leading us to the elevator. Is it elevator A,B or C? Luckily there was someone to guide us to the right elevator (which is at the far right behind the courtyard). Since this is an old building, you have to open the elevator doors manually when it arrives. It's a very narrow elevator which can only fit 2 people with 2 small luggage. Anyway, once we were inside the B&B, the atmosphere was different. Everything was nicely upgraded, plus there's a free cappuccino machine and cookies in the hallway. Tip: There were bathrobes and slippers in the closet but this is for a fee of EUR7.50/person (it's called a 'comfort kit'). We didn't notice the 'comfort kit' sign (which could be laid flat on the high shelf at that time), so we used them right away. Only later we found out there's a fee for this (after checking out and my card was charged). Frankly, we would never have used them if we knew it wasn't for free. So my advise is to check if anything in the room is included or not. As a bonus, (after checking the fine print of course) they will give 2 bottles of natural water per night (which other hotels don't give). Another tip, make sure you remember to take the front entrance key whenever you leave your room. Otherwise you would have to call a number and they will provide a code to get the spare key from a lockbox near the entrance. We were lucky there was a person in the office when we got locked out. It would have been troublesome for me since I only bought a local SIM card with just a data plan (no local calls). Also. the free breakfast included is just an Italian breakfast - which is coffee, juice and a cornetto. If you want more than this then of course you have to pay extra. Breakfast is served at the adjacent Elite Cafe. We did our laundry at the nearby laundromat (which unfortunately closes at 8:30pm), so if you plan to do so make sure you do it first thing in the morning while you're having breakfast. The night before, I took a load of laundry but the 2 washing machines were in used. I waited for a while but then noticed that it closes at 8:30pm (and it was 8pm at that time), so I had to do it the next morning since it would be rushing to come back from Cinque Terre just to do the laundry (a total of an hour for wash and dry). In summary, this is a very good lodging in La Spezia which is close to everything - restaurants, ferry dock and train station. Remember this is a B&B and they have their own rules and guidelines which are different than regular hotels. Indeed, a very unique experience for us, personally. It feels like you get to live among the locals in the building (since local residents live there too).…
Our family of seven stayed in Cinque Terre Gateway for one night. It is not a hotel but an excellent B&B. The staff communicated with us very well before the visit and ensured that we got parked correctly. Once there they could not have been more helpful, holding our bags until our rooms were ready. Our rooms were very modern and clean. Breakfast next morning was at a small restaurant across the street. It was tasty and service was friendly, efficient and prompt. This was a very good experience for us as a family. This is a good place and we would stay here again. Thank you Cinque Terre Gateway.
We were initially concerned walking to and into the building, however, the rooms and lobby were well appointed, extremely clean and very comfortable. Location is right by the train and restaurants. After two weeks in Italy, I can say these beds and pillows were the most comfortable!
