The AC Genoa is a proper hotel worthy of the Marriott Label. The staff is friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean, modern and well appointed. The food is tasty and convenient.
The only problem is the location. It is away from the City Center, where most tourist destinations are. It is nowhere near the airport, train station or cruise terminal. It is right by a hospital, so if you enjoy monitoring ambulances, this is your place.
I actually did not mind the location - it is not like I was in Siberia. I did like knowing what I was getting with a Marriott brand hotel, and there the AC Genoa delivered in spades.
I traveled here last week and used Marriott points for the three day stay. It was during the time of great weather upheaval and torrential downpours. I'll admit it, I spent far more time in my hotel room that I would have preferred due to the weather. It is on a scenic hillside location, like all buildings in Genoa. I enjoyed, during the limited time there, walking around and down to the local Quarto de Mille train station (easy to/downhill about 15 minutes walk/25 minutes return to the hotel uphill). There is a good and reasonably priced pizza restaurant across the street (a very busy one tho) and a large supermarket sharing the same parking lot.
After a lovely welcome and check-in by Alexandro we found our superior room on the fourth floor and were happy with the aspect and good A/C, well fitted bathroom and that wonderful bed. The hotel probably needs a makeover but we had no complaints, a secure garage for us is worth Eur20 a night but it was a little chaotic at times. The hotel is about 15 mins from the city centre and the only draw back is the lack of restaurants close by; we had dinner at the hotel which was a little lack lustred due to our Rabbit being over cooked however the service was good and the choices were reasonable. In all a good 2 night stay.
Nice hotel with convenient location for our short stay. I will say though that this hotel appears to be located and set up more for the business traveler than vacation. We were not going to be doing much in Genoa during our stay of just 2 nights so it was perfect for our day trip to Nice and Monaco. The room was perfect and clean. The hotel was very nice with a large lobby and huge sitting area. Restaurant area and was nice and the dinner and breakfast we ate there was good. If you need snacks or other food items, there is a gas station/convenience right next door and a supermarket right behind the hotel. Now for the issues that kept me from giving this hotel a 5. The parking is an issue. There is not enough parking under this hotel. I think this is partly due to the fact that there are apartments also located in this building and some of the parking is divided off for those apartments. If you arrive at the hotel too late at night, you will struggle to find a space. The huge concrete pillars make it hard to park even a small vehicle. We were able to squeeze or rental car into a couple place while we were there but it was hectic. Also, the turn you have to make from one side of the lot to get to the card swipe that opens the gate is impossible. You have to drive to the other side of the lot and turn around (a challenge in itself if a space is not open to pull into) and approach from the other side. The other issue is the potential for traffic fines. From the major highway that runs above Genoa, there is only one good way (or the way our GPS took us) from the highway down to the street where the hotel is located. We took the same route in and out every time. As you come down Corsa Europa to the west, the hotel is on the left across the street. However, there is no way to turn across the street due to permanent barriers so you have to drive down and cross over to come back down. I have been told by the rental car company that I got at least one traffic fine in Genoa though a year later I have not received any citation from the city. In Italy, the most common fines are LTZ or driving in a limited traffic zone. There are signs posted in these areas but can be missed. I am almost sure this is where I may have incurred the fine or fines by driving this particular route. Please be aware of this. Also, I have heard that if this is only way for you to get to the hotel, you can get the hotel to write you a letter to the traffic court in an effort to appeal the fine. I am not sure about this but this is for informational purposes only. Just please be aware of the route you are taking to the hotel and that it is not in a restricted zone monitored by traffic cameras.
I booked 3 double rooms for a three-night-stay for a short get away in August. What can I say? The rooms are amaaaazing. I really loved that the rooms are exactly the same as they’re shown in photos! Aside the double bed, we also had a sofa in the room and it was not cramped at all. You have lots of space to move around and I really liked that! Not to mention that we had a beautiful view from our window. And of course, the bed was soooo comfy it was really hard to get up! Location is not pretty bad. It’s not that far from downtown and it’s near the beach(es). Some of the staff was really helpful. I phoned a few times and talked to a kind woman, I think the name is Coralba, who always answered my questions very happily. Then Cristina who put up with our every question and always greeted me buon giorno with a beautiful smile. The lovely and adorable lady from housekeeping who kept our room squeaky clean. Breakfast is not the best but definitely offered a variety to chose from. There are few negative things I found. One of which is the parking system where you pay 14€ per day but once you take your car out of their garage, there’s no guarantee you’ll find a spot once you come back. Another one is the amount of time the breakfast staff take before refilling the food. Too long! But the real reason I’m rating this hotel a 4 out 5 is the VERY UNFRIENDLY ATTITUDE that two of the staff have. One unwelcoming man from the reception who never smiled and made me feel I bothered him too much when I asked him something and the other one is a girl from the breakfast staff who was just soooo... antipatica. Taking into consideration that I never saw the breakfast staff smiling, that particular girl stood out for her unprofessional attitude. Made me go back and forth in the hall because she didn’t want me to occupy a table and kept on pointing me and saying “No. There!” without even looking that the tables are all occupied. She needs to be told off!! Very different from the housekeeping ladies who’d greet you buon giorno even from the other side of the hall. Overall, I will definitely be back here the next time I’m in Genova. Can’t wait!!

The breakfast is very modest anyways, I would not put a lot of attention there
