My friend and I stayed here for 4 nights in July. Upon entering the hotel it appears very grand and traditional. The receptionist who checked us in was great, we had booked a room with a double bed but upgraded us to a room with two beds and despite arriving a couple of hours before check in our room was ready. The rooms are just as shown on the website and they were clean, our bathroom was massive. We were really excited about the rooftop hot tubs and the spa. Although the hot tubs were nice and had good views, you have to walk through the restaurant to reach them which is not ideal. Also the photos fail to show that the hot tubs share the same terrace as the restaurant so people are having their lunch etc which wasn’t the best. Whilst we were there, there was only ever one bar staff meaning we had to wait a while to order and receive drinks. The first day we booked the spa for as soon as it opened and had it to ourselves, which was perfect it was really clean and just a great experience. However, on the last day we went the spa later and other people had finished their sessions and it wasn’t the same. The spa doesn’t get cleaned in between sessions and just small things like the robes not being replaced and disposable cups not being disposed of let it down. We also ate at the rooftop restaurant which did not live up to expectations. We sat outside which was perfect the view was amazing. The octopus salad was gorgeous, but the flan was just alright. For main courses we got the purple shrimp pasta and rack of lamb and neither were very good, the rack of lamb was more like lamb chops. The service was very good though and the drinks were nice. We had breakfast in the hotel once and sat outside. The restaurant didn’t have the best layout, so the tables inside have people constantly walking past and just getting in the way and it felt cramped. There was a wide variety of food and I would recommend the breakfast. On our 2nd night we had an issue with our safe not working and reception sent a repairman but he couldn’t fix it. We had to ask the hotel if they had any security boxes, ideally as soon as we told them about our safe they should have suggested this option. Overall, the hotel was nice and in a great location, I don’t think it is a true 5* hotel.

We were upgraded from our original booking at the sister Hotel Continental. And were so happy we were. Had a beautiful large and well decorated room with windows that opened onto a nice courtyard. Our bathroom had several features for people with disabilities but it was spacious and very nice. Breakfast on the terrace was copious and delicious. Dinner there was lovely too. Staff at the front desk and servers on the terrace were friendly, efficient and professional. Only downside (as others have mentioned) was the lack of a doorman and the difficulty of lugging suitcases up the front steps. But I think the small space would make putting a ramp in difficult. I'd stay again in a minute!

This hotel made us feel special from the moment we walked in the door. I can think of no higher praise. I noticed the real China in the room and the Negroni in the bar was one of the best we've had. Thank you for all of your efforts and well done. The only negative is you have to walk up a slight hill and a few stairs to get into the hotel from the train station. It's not a big deal unless you're older and have 6 weeks of luggage like we did. We managed, however. Just be aware.

Very nice room size with very comfortable bed and pillows. Furniture and style a bit dated but with lots of old charm. Very friendly staff. Excellent breakfast 15 minutes from historical part of Genoa.

Our room was on the 6th floor of the hotel. It overlooked the bay where the cruise ships were. Since we were taking a cruise out of Genoa it was the perfect spot for us.It was a 7 minute walk down hill to the cruise port. The hotel staff were extremely courteous and accommodating. Our room was larger than we expected giving us lots of space. The bathroom was also very spacious. We had a jacuzzi tub and shower. High ceilings to give our room a spacious feeling. Breakfast was included with our room. It was served in their main dining room and was buffet style. The food and service were what you would expect at this caliber of hotel. The hotel was a few euro/$ more than hotels around it, but worth every bit extra. I am talking pennies on the dollar to enjoy a classic hotel. Checkout was at noon and they held our luggage at the front desk until we were ready to head to the cruise port. And yes we opted to walk to the cruise port with our roller luggage. They also would have arranged for a cab to take us.

Walking distance from train station a plus. Beautiful hotel well maintained and clean. Balcony facing the city was a plus for pictures. Rooftop bar (although closed) was available to sit and soak in the sites and sounds of the city. You are able to bring your own drink from the downstairs bar and watch the sunset. What topped off our wonderful stay was the breakfast buffet! The best we have ever experienced. Go hungry and spend time savoring all the flavors. We dined in their restaurant next door which was truly enjoyable for our first Italian meal. The entire staff was very friendly. (My only disappointment is booking a spa treatment online with the reservations. We arrived Sunday only to find out that the Spa was closed on Sundays and would open Monday afternoon). Since we only stayed one night, we could not use it and no refund was offered. Hours of operation should have been posted online.)

We stayed one night on our stopover between France and Italy and the Grand was the perfect spot. A few minutes walk from the train station and about 15 minutes from the lively waterfront boardwalk with its choice of restaurants and sites. There are also a few restaurants a few minutes walk from the hotel that looked casual and inviting. Overall service at the hotel was very good and the deluxe room excellent. The king bed was devine (so comfy) and the bathroom and toiletries ample and classy. A lovely stay.

Excellent hotel. Very good value. We had an executive room on a B&B basis. Room amazing. Old luxury. Lovely touches such as proper coat hangers. Loan of a decent hair dryer. Lovely soft robes. Ideally located for station and airport bus. It’s a walk into town but so much to see when you do. Breakfast lovely. Only even better if was that the spa didn’t open until 16:30. In October roof top spa also closed but I suspect it’s amazing in the summer. Would recommend

Very disappointing! Wildly overpriced at £233 a night. The hotel is far from the 5 star haven advertised with dated facilities in need of urgent TLC and lacked any luxurious experience. Firstly there is no one at the door to assist with luggage so had to struggle with our bags upon arrival up the stairs to the lobby. The rooms were tired and in need of much updating. Don’t be fooled by the photos. The spa in the basement was filthy, so we left. The roof terrace was sadly lacking, no service during the day just empty tables, the hot tub was shut, and the terrace was completely closed for a private function at night. During our stay the majority of the staff seemed glum, often ignored us, barging past us in the corridors, and on occasion outrageously rude, particularly the restaurant manageress at breakfast who made us feel most unwelcome. No menus were provided at breakfast which we found rather odd as they did offer hot cooked options such as omelettes after asking, but we're told to add our own ingredients from the buffet after cooking. We've had better breakfasts at 3* establishments. The front desk did kindly make dinner reservations for us at a nearly restaurant but that’s as far as the ‘service’ went. Very sad to have experienced such an over hyped and self-exaggerated hotel. We were not asked how our stay was upon checkout. Sad to say we will not return.
