#10 of 94 hotels in Genoa
Travelers' Choice
The hotel is located in one of Genoa's most historic palaces, "Serra Gerace" palace that is part of the Rolli. Built in 1300, in 1700 it was already a Hotel de la Ville. The futurist writer Marinetti, who has written several of his works from the salon, has also stayed inside. The family-run hotel tries to blend the features of a 4-star Hotel with welcome and family warmth to try to make its customers feel like guests. The decor was made specially made by skilled craftsmen to allow to maintain the historical character of the era, which can be found in the marble floors present in the corridors and rooms of the second floor. The common rooms and rooms are also embellished with period posters and it is for this reason that the common areas of the Hotel are part of the museum of tourism, with the name of Room 16. The property consists of 16 rooms on two floors, the rooms on the second floor are the most spacious as there are suites that are lofted have two divided areas. Once guests have visited the city, they can relax at the Hotel's lounge bar, which is next to the reception or in the smoking/billiards room in the lofted part of the entrance. In addition, the Hotel is also perfect for business trips as it is within walking distance of the Old Port's convention area and the city centre. It also has a collaboration with the Coworking Studio Genoa in which there is a conference/meeting room, various meeting rooms that guests can take advantage of at discounted prices.

I expected more from my stay at the Hotel de Ville in Genova. The first impact was great: the hotel is in a beautiful ancient palace facing the port, very close to the famous Aquarium (also facing a not-so-pretty fly-over though), the entrance stairs are truly sumptuous and the staff at the desk is invariably young, friendly and efficient. The rooms also initially confirmed this impression: they are remarkably large, with bathrooms verging to the "enormous". However, here comes the first problems: the large rooms look a bit empty and impersonal, a few more paintings, pictures, color in general would greatly help. The large cold floors deserve the use of slippers, that were not provided. Also the low ceilings and window, facing an inner yard, made the room rather dark. The worst problem was at night though: a mixture of but soundproofing, rude neighbors (some of them sporting a large dog) and bad luck made sleeping nearly impossible. On top of that, if in the morning one wanted to exploit the earlier departure of the noisy neighbors, could not sneak a bit of sleeping due to even noisier housekeeping, with employees talking loudly in the corridors and even listening to music on their smartphones. Truly annoying. The breakfast was good, and as I said the staff is probably the hotel best asset. Beware of the dodgy characters surrounding the hotel area after dark.

We have just come back from a mini week end in Genova. We stayed at Hôtel de Ville (why not Hotel de la Ville?). The hotel is new and it is located in two floors of an old Palazzo modernly restores just in front of the old harbor. This area has become in the last years one of the best in town, with the famous aquarium, restaurants, cinemas...The streets of the elegant shoppingare 10 minutes walk away while the famous Vicoli (the little streets of the old town) are just behind. The hotel is all decorated in beige, grey and brown tones and all around there is a beautiful collection of travel posters and affiches (if they are all original they must have cost a fortune)! Our room was huge and comfortable with a beautiful view on the harbor. Of course there is the “sopraelevata” (a busy and noisy highway) in between but the soundproof is excellent. Breakfast was ok. We went with a Smartbox and the voucher included an Aperitivo, which was tasty. But why not having a simple crodino,in Italy?

Good evening Thank you for sharing with us the experience we had at our Hotel, We are very happy that the property for its location and proximity to the main attractions of the city was an additional comfort during your stay. We are pleased that the décor and renovation of the building in combination with the antiquity of the latter was a very appreciated aspect. Unfortunately the name Hotel de la Ville (original name of the palace when it was a Hotel in 1600) was not possible for various bureaucratic reasons the choice fell on Hotel de Ville to try to keep as close as possible to the socric name. Hoping to welcome you back to our facility in the future, Best Regards, Giacomo Parodi Hotel de Ville
