We stayed here for a few nights whilst in Cinque Terre. We walked (with bags) from the train station. Do not worry about trying to find the place, the host knows everyone in town, so just ask for directions if you get lost!
Our room, whilst compact, was clean and cute with our own bathroom. The terrace was a wonderful place to sit with a wine! It is possible to have dinner delivered here from the restaurant next door - we didn’t get a chance to do this but we saw another lady get dinner delivered and it looked amazing!
Monterosso de Mare is gorgeous, all the villages are, but this one has a decent sized beach and lots of shops and restaurants. We enjoyed our stay here and we’re fortunate to be there for the annual lemon festival.
We loved it here, and the accommodation was perfect for our stay. The village is one of those few gems that you find which has a palpable sense of community.
Just one thing to be aware of - there are a few stairs to navigate to get to your room!

This hotel has a perfect location with small restaurants and shops around, a beautiful roof terrace and short distance to the beach and the railway station. The owners of the place were helpful and gave the place a very nice atmosphere. Hope to come back!

My husband and I stayed at L'antica terraza for 3 nights last week. We were impressed with the high standard of accommodation offered and the fantastic location. It is situated right in the Centre of the Old Town, so when looking out of your window, you are surrounded my beautiful old buildings, all with the traditional shutters on the doors and windows. The best thing is; the beach is only about a 2 minute walk away!
There are 4 rooms in this bed and breakfast, and all have been done up to a different theme. We stayed in the 'Aqua' room, so enjoyed peaceful blue and white surroundings. The decor has been very carefully thought out and is very pleasing to the eye. The bathroom was a good size, and very clean, with modern fittings.
On the top floor is a terrace which has views over the narrow streets of the old town. A perfect place to sit at the end of the day to enjoy some local vino and culinary delights!
Rafaella is the owner, and she is very friendly and helpful. We would definitely recommend this bed and breakfast for when you are in Monterosso!

After having spent 4 busy days and nights in Paris, my husband and I arrived in Monterosso after a long days journey and found paradise! L'Antica Terazza is a small boutique hotel owned by a young girl named Raffella. There's no elevator but once you settle in it's sooooo worth it! It's sooo clean and has all the conveniences you might need, shampoo, shower gel. The room was average size for a European room, the bathroom was imacculate though the towels were more like waffle tea towels. It had a tiny balcony overlooking the small "intersection," pedestrian only of course. The best part was Raffella was so helpful! We had told her approximately what time we would arrive and although she isn't at the hotel at all times, when we walked up to the door she came walking up! She gave us info on the area, a map, and her cell #! The night before we were leaving we went up to the main patio where her office is to pay her, well not only did she offer us a glass of incredible red wine....but she had it AND five bowls of mini appetizers delivered from a restaurant across the street!! Now that's service and worth returning to! It was only 115 Euro /night too!

My wife and I stayed at L’Antica Terrazza during our anniversary trip in May, 2008. I am 27 and my wife is 25. We were ready for four relaxing nights in the Cinque Terra before heading to Venice. We spent our first two nights in Vernazza at Maria Capellini’s charming room (HIGHLY recommended – we would have stayed there all four nights, but they only had the first two available, we paid 80 euro per night in Vernazza – see my separate review of that room). After reading Tripadvisor reviews (unfortunately, most reviews were from 2007 or before), we decided to book our remaining two nights at L’Antica Terrazza. It seemed very charming and looked like a great location to spend a couple of nights. It was a little more than we wanted to spend at 100 euro per night (higher compared to other towns in the CT, average for Monterosso), but we decided to book anyway. We arrived a little bit early, and Raffaella informed us our room was not quite ready (which was fine). She took our bags and we were able to look around Monterosso while our room was being cleaned. When we checked into our room, it was quite smaller than our room in Vernazza, but we were ok with the size. It had a nice balcony overlooking the busy square, but during the day there was quite a bit of construction noise (after leaving Vernazza, Monterosso felt more like a bustling city than a relaxing beachside town – it had the best shopping of the 5 towns, but wasn’t nearly as charming or quaint as any of the other towns in our opinion, although old town is MUCH more charming than new town – I wouldn’t stay in new town). We spent a few hours at the local beach just down the road, had dinner, took a walk through old town, and then decided to head back to the room around 10:30 or 11:00, since jet lag was starting to hit us by that point.
When we got back to our room, we were welcomed with the sounds of loud American rock music coming from the “Fast Bar” (American Bar) just down the alleyway (being Americans ourselves, American rock was the last thing we wanted to fall asleep to while in Italy). And that was before we opened our windows (since it was warm and the a/c was not on). We quickly realized that keeping the windows open was not an option, as the music and bar noise kept getting louder and louder. However, even with the windows closed it was just as noisy and disturbing, even as tired as we were. Finally around 2:00 (yes, 3 hours of trying to fall asleep in our muggy, noisy room), the music and bar crowd noise started to fade. Just in time for our neighbors to get back to their room (I am guessing they came back from the bar). That’s when we realized that the walls must be as thin as paper. Their bathroom was right on the other side of the wall as our heads, so we were able to hear them use the bathroom quite clearly. Then, they decided to have some “love time” with each other, which, again, we were able to hear perfectly clear (and again, not what we preferred to fall asleep to). I believe we finally fell asleep around 3:00 am, only to wake up around 8:30 am to more construction noise. At this point we decided there was no way we wanted to spend another night in this room or in Monterosso (the higher prices are not justified, unless you are on a party trip – if you want relaxation, I would choose one of the other 4 towns). Had we not already stayed in Vernazza, Monterosso probably wouldn't have seemed as bad (by "bad," keep in mind I'm comparing to the other towns you can choose from - Monterosso in and of itself is very nice). Thankfully Raffaella understood and let us check out a day early (she even offered to turn on the a/c for us to make it more comfortable, to which we kindly refused). We took the train down to Riomaggiore and found an open room with Edi’s Rooms (she has rooms scattered across town, she runs the local Laundromat and rents from a place next door) for 60 euro, which was bigger, more comfortable and MUCH quieter (it was tucked away up in a small alley / street). That was a perfect way to end our time in the Cinque Terra.
Please don’t get me wrong – there was nothing wrong with the room itself, and Raffaella was great. However, I would highly recommend staying in (1) Vernazza (overall our favorite town), (2) Riomaggiore (had our favorite harbor front), (3) Maranola (great views from the top of town), or (4) Corniglia (the smallest and not right on the water) if you want a nice, relaxing stay while in the Cinque Terra. The rooms are less expensive, and I feel like it gives you more of that “true Italian” experience. Plus, if you want to party at night, you can always take the train to Monterosso and then take it back to your quiet, less expensive room. The trains run pretty late. Definitely hike between the towns – our favorite hikes were the two longest (and most difficult) – between Monterosso and Vernazza, and between Vernazza and Corniglia. You will get a postcard view from every turn on those two hikes!
Sorry for the long review, I just wanted to give our full opinion, and I wished someone would written more details about their experience before we got there. Our one night definitely did not ruin our trip, we would have just spent less money and had one more good night sleep had we stayed elsewhere.

I can't thank John and his lovely wife Rafaella enough for making our stay the best in Monterosso while we hiked the 5 cities. This B & B is so close to the train station situated in the quainter old town of Monterosso. The new town has no soul whatsoever and we only went there to use the laundromat. The old town is where its at and L'Antica Terrazza is perfectly placed with a lovely rooftop terrace with a glimpse of the sea. This was a great spot for getting away from the hordes of tourist which would come in like the ocean wave and then disappear again. Our rooms were spotless and was in the top floor and we had a shared bathroom which was basically all ours to use as the room next door had an ensuite. I cannot stress how clean this B & B was and due credit to John and Rafaella. I saw her come into the B & b with her shoes off until she got to the bottom of the stairs and felt so guilty with my shoes on hahaha. Breakfast was great and John and Rafaella waited on us by making us coffee and getting us Juice from the fridge which we could of done ourselves. They had this amazing focaccia bread on offered and although greasy it was delicious and light and fluffy and right amount of salt.
Ok now onto the whining negative reviews these poor guys have recievd in the past which I had to speak up and defend L'antica
1) rooms are small probably cos your a fat American. We found rooms fine and size was acceptable who goes on holiday and stays in there room. Have you notice the houses squashed together ... Land is a premium people your lucky you get a double bed!
2) wifi upstairs did not work for us and it's not L'Antica fault as there broadband is not cabled but wifi so the poor guys suffer from atmospheric interferences get over it. It worked fine for us downstairs
3) to the whingers who said Rafaella English was bad or she didnt explain the sea well .. I like to see you hold a conversation in Italian ... Ignorant tourists!

Neat location in narrow alleys of old town Monterosso. Interior of building has been modernized nicely. Room was very clean with nice sized bathroom and terrace. Better than the hotels I've stayed at in Monterosso and half the price.

We stayed at L'Antica for 3 nights. Raffaella, the owner, is so nice and she keeps the place completely spotless. The shared terrace is so perfect for enjoying a bottle of wine and watching the sun set. The B&B overlooks a little piazza in the heart of Monterosso. We really enjoyed our stay and will most definitely stay there again if we return.

An absolute great place to stay and even better service from the couple (Raffaella & Jon) that own and run the place. There was four of us traveling Europe for 2.5 weeks and a friend recommended Cinque Terra to us. We picked L'Antica Terrazza based on the Tripadvisor reviews and booked two rooms for two nights.
Booking was easy and the owners responded to emails quickly. When we arrived Raffaella was there to greet us and allowed into the rooms to unpack and relax and there was no rush or pressure for us to pay right away. We used a credit to hold the reservation when we booked the room online and paid cash upon arrival. Raffaella even told us about the small % discount they offered for cash payment, which we didn't even know or ask about!
Rooms were basic but very clean. Queen bed, tv with a good amount of channels, good A/C, and nice shower and bathroom. The balcony on the top floor (open to anyone staying at the place) is a great place to kick back and relax with a bottle of wine and pizza. Raffaella was even kind enough to offer us a couple bottles of wine that were left from previous guests. Breakfast was provided on the lower floor each morning.
The location is great as its a short walk down to the beach and there are plenty of places to eat nearby (and the owners are happy to make recommendations!). One of the days we hiked the trail to Vernazza and spent the day laying out on the rocks, drinking Peroni's, and diving into the ocean whenever we pleased (something I would highly recommend).
We were extremely saddened to hear about the flooding that hit Monterosso and Vernazza shortly after our stay. I truly wish Raffaella and Jon the best with the recovery. We cannot wait to return to the city and will definitely stay at L' Antica Terrazza!

L'Antica Terraza has a great location with a beautiful view from the second floor terrace, but the best part of it is the owner, Rafaela, and her assistant Elena!
Elena speaks very good English and was a great help to me, telling me about some good places to see and eat.She was also very nice company in the morning in their breakfast room. Breakfast is included in the price of the room and includes focaccia, toast, fruit, cheese, Nutella, coffee, and a boiled egg if you would like one.
The rooms are also spotlessly clean. If you are a solo traveler, you may be able to book the less expensive room that has a private bathroom down the hall, rather than en suite. They also have free wifi.

This question should be addressed to L'Antica Terrazza. Although I can say it is a delightful place to stay.
This was one of our favorite hotels in Italy. Hope you get a room!
Hello Kerryn1968
