We decided on a trip to Tuscany at relatively short notice and chose the Hotel Baia for the overnight stays. The hotel is of course perfectly located, right on the promenade with access to the hotel's own section of beach. The check-in went smoothly, the reception was friendly and uncomplicated. The hotel was one of the cheaper ones in comparison. The room was clean and nicely presented. The staff are friendly and helpful, however, at breakfast the staff seemed a bit listless and upon first entering we were constantly made aware that the area was for hotel guests only, rather than politely asking if we were guests of the hotel. Still it was ok. The breakfast is sufficient, we recommend a fresh cappuccino from the portafilter. Unfortunately, the rolls were a bit hard and the cold cuts weren't quite as fresh on the second day and had bad spots. But that can happen and the breakfast was sufficient overall. What surprised us a bit was the additional charge for the beach. However, there are two beach chairs with an umbrella for the whole day, the section is clean. On the last day I just wanted to go into the water again and placed the towel on the beach section away from it. Unfortunately the lifeguard referred me to the adjacent section, despite explaining that I am a guest of the hotel and that I am leaving in an hour. Not a problem in itself, but in my opinion an unnecessary comment for this short time. You have constant access to the hotel with a key and everything made a secure impression. We slept very well, from time to time there was some noise (which may have been due to the guests). In the evening we would have liked to have had a drink at the small bar, unfortunately we didn't see anyone or were there at the wrong time. Overall, though, it was a pleasant stay and while a bit more expensive by our standards, the location and charm is nice.
Breakfast is a small but good buffet, and can be enjoyed outside, on the promenade with seaview. Staff is very friendly and upon check-in gave us information about trains, boats and Monterosso.
I can not spend 2 words also for the lifeguards who work there because they are really VERY friendly, attentive and helpful.
Last not unpleasant note is the room: adequate size, clean and the service women are very kind.
Unfortunately, the positive notes end there.
Cons: breakfast really very poor! There are only croissants and all packaged products (apart from a few slices of ham and cheese and vegetable pies). For those who want something sweet in the morning should prepare to eat only stuff "in my opinion poor".
Plus, breakfast starts at 8, so if you're an early riser, forget about eating before that time. If you arrive a few minutes before 8, the owner (I assume she is the boy's mother at reception) tells you to wait outside (in unpolite ways) as breakfast is not ready.
Last but not least, the incompetence and rudeness of the lady owner.
One morning, me and my partner, we took one fruit each to take to the beach for a snack and the lady came to the table to "scold" us in front of everyone (making us look like peasants for a trivial fruit) telling us that we can not do it because food should be consumed on the spot.
To conclude, it does not seem very much in line with environmental sustainability because there is only one waste bin in the room and I do not see many improvements in this respect.
Well, if you have a good spirit of adaptation this place is also fine, but we certainly do not see us anymore!
All needs met with great housekeeping as well.
Only suggestion is that hotel guests should not have to pay separately and daily for beach chairs and umbrella. Perhaps an optional flat rate charge for your entire stay.
Definitely would return here again and recommend Hotel Baia to others.
the air conditioning in the room did not work 2 out of the 4 nights i stayed.
the reception staff used covid as an excuse for a lot of services they did not want to provide.
they refused to hold my hotel room key during the day when i was out because of covid.
they do not provide beach towels because of covid.
they would not store a laptop at reception because of covid.
Very well placed, also offers if you wish a rental of "umbrellas and sun loungers" for a price of 35 € per day overlooking a private beach of the hotel (supervised by a lifeguard)
The room is clean with equipment such as a safe and a small fridge.
Hearty and good breakfast.
Very friendly staff.
The location of the hotel, in front of the beach and 100 m from the train station, is perfect.
The hotel itself is very charming and pleasant. The staff are very attentive. The breakfast is very tasty and served in a room in front of the sea. The rooms are renovated. They are in very good condition and are very comfortable.
Ultimately, the hotel combines comfort, good logistics, charm and efficiency.
