Never would recommend this hotel to anyone. I do not know wether it was my tattoos or the fact Im mixed race, but this hotel had the worst service around this area. Extremely rude from the second I arrived, didnt want to help with anything. Had other guest walking in with bathing wear and didn't say anything... but if it were me walking in the lady immidiatly would start being rude with me. Horrible horrible hotel, I knew Italy can be racist, but to be fair... it has been fine so far. Except for this one.
Wow, what a terrible stay for family traveling with two young kids! After a long day of travel from NYC to Portugal, we were excited to arrive at Hotel Baia in Cascais. The hotel lobby was bright, modern and elegant but any hope of a relaxing vacation ended there. Yes, the location is fantastic but if you get one of the “family rooms”, I would CAUTION you against booking there because the room you get (we stayed at 102) was nothing like what we imagined and was a terrible experience for families, especially when you have an infant and a toddler for many reasons: (1) The room required you to go up some steps to get to the door and once you enter, it required you to go down some steps to get to the living quarters. This made things very difficult when you are trying to get little kids and strollers in and out of the room. (2) The room doesn’t have a mini fridge, which seems like a basic amenity in any decent hotel. So in order for me to store or retrieve my breast milk or any other perishable food, I would have to go down to the lobby every time to ask them to put or take out the items in their fridge, which was incredibly inconvenient. I don’t even know if they stored my breast milk properly because when I got them back, the milk tasted and smelled funny so I had to throw away at least 20 oz of milk which pained me to no end. (3) The crib we requested for our baby was totally unusable. The pack and play they brought to our room had a mattress pad that was flimsy with one side being higher than the other. The pad itself was much too soft for an infant and when you press down on the pad, you can actually feel it go through the bottom bars holding up the pack and play. How is this safe for an infant or any child to sleep in at all? How do they not check this before giving it to a guest?! (4) No one came to clean our room during our 48 hour stay even though we hung up the sign asking someone to do so. (5) The room itself was less than pleasant. The bathroom was the only thing that looked like may have been recently renovated but even that is unclear because the bathroom had a mildewy smell when you walk in. The beds, table, shelf and whatever other furniture they had in the room looked like they were leftover furniture that they did not want to use in the new rooms. The standing lamp they had in the room did not even work. And the windows looked out to vents and other electrical units so we kept the curtains closed the whole time, which made the room looked even more dreary and depressing. What they called as the “family room” was not family friendly at all, and it made traveling with a family more stressful and frustrating. We did not want to spend anytime in our room and it was bad enough where we decided to leave early. The room was really off brand and should not have been rented out at all. Beyond disappointed.…
Great hotel on the spiaggia! (Beach) Right by train station and local restaurants. Room was great with balcony, even without completed sea views slept with ocean waves. Traditional European breakfast by the sea! Clean, friendly staff, walk everywhere and Monterosso is just beautiful! Enjoy — will come again.
The hotel is located right on the beach, and only about 100 meters away from the Monterosso train station. It is a lovely place and if I return to Cinque Terre, I will return to the Baia hotel. We had two rooms to the back (not with seaview), but with an amazing balcony / garden (rooms 20 and 29 share this amazing little paradise). A great place to relax after a busy day in the Cinque Terre. The rooms are clean and comfortable and with everything you need. There is an elevator only for luggage, so be prepared for the stairs. Breakfast is a small but good buffet, and can be enjoyed outside, on the promenade with seaview. Staff is very friendly and upon check-in gave us information about trains, boats and Monterosso.
I went to sleep in one of the beds of Hotel Baia and woke up in the morning with close to 100 bites all over. Worse off was my arm which usually end up against the headboard when I sleep. Now, the hotel tells me they have no problem with bed bugs. What do you think? Sono andato a dormire in uno dei letti dell'hotel Baia e mi sono svegliato con quasi 100 morsi al mattino. Allora, l'hotel dice che non hanno assolutamente problemi con le cimici dei letti. Cosa ne pensi?
Great location but everything else was terrible. there is no elevator, the front desk staff are some of the rudest i have come across, they are something to behold. i guess because of the beach front location the reception staff think they have a license to be rude to everyone. the air conditioning in the room did not work 2 out of the 4 nights i stayed. the reception staff used covid as an excuse for a lot of services they did not want to provide. they refused to hold my hotel room key during the day when i was out because of covid. they do not provide beach towels because of covid. they would not store a laptop at reception because of covid.
This Hotel’s good point is its location. On the other hand, it’s Bad’s are many. Worst is the front desk staff, unfriendly and unhelpful. The only way to your room are the stairs (4 flights got old quick) the elevator is for luggage only. The hotel’s beach area is lounge chairs only at a charge of 25 euro/day & in addition to that for an added fee, you have to rent a towel or go to the store and buy one. The public parking down the street is 25 euro/night. Lastly is the A/C which will now cool below 26 C/ 79 F seemed to have a preset minimum temp. no matter where you set it.
We enjoyed a week at Monterosso as a family of 4, staying in Hotel Baia. With a sea side view on the second floor, it was a terrific location. Simone and the staff was very friendly and accommodating to our basic needs. Big respect for Francesca at the lifeguard station! Really the only downfall i could mention is that there is no lunch or dinner served at the hotel, but there are plenty of places that make up for it.
Location, location and location.. the price you pay is called location. This place had low standards of rooms but the made up for it with good, friendly service. The breakfast served was also very nice. If you want to stay close to beach but do t expect to much this is the place to stay.
Three nights in the Cinque Terre, this was a good base. Close to the train station with hauling luggage up the hills. This century old hotel has comfortable beds and updates to the bathroom. We greatly enjoyed falling asleep to the sounds of the surf. Breakfast satisfied for a day of hiking, and a take away breakfast satisfied before an early train
