Opened in May 2006, duoMo hotel is the inaugural hotel project from the internationally renowned architect and designer, Ron Arad. This much anticipated launch sees the use of alternative Materials, bright colours and unusual shapes to produce a hotel that reverses design expectations to create an overall experience that is both futuristic and exciting. NoMi club is the beating heart of the structure. Open all day, it quickly became a landmark, both for individual clients and to host events of various kinds.

Highly recommend the Duomo as the perfect location for discovering Rimini and the local region. Cafes, restaurants, gelateria and supermercato all within a 5 min stroll. I stayed and used it for my base while on a cycling holiday, easy to get to from Bologna airport via the Airport Shuttle bus which drops you off at the Rimini train station, then a 10 min stroll even with my bike box to the hotel. Breakfast was plentiful and looked after amazingly by welcoming friendly staff. The rooms clean and cleaned daily, all the amenities needed for any stay. The Hotel restaurant in the evening had a great choice of locals dishes.

Hotel Duomo is located just two-minute walk from the main square in the historic city centre of Rimini. We did have some minor reservations about the hotel however both in terms of style and location it compares extremely favourably with what looked like a very downmarket, tacky and over crowded collection of hotels on the seafront (We happened to have dinner at Le Meridien and it was truly truly awful). Duomo provides free bicycles and a mini-bus shuttle to and from the beach.

From the airport: if you don’t have much luggage the number 9 bus would take you to the city centre and does not cost much. However, we decided to take a taxi only to find that there were very few causing a long wait (about 45 min) in a taxi-line with no shade. The taxi driver tried to overcharge us and we had to ask the reception staff to intervene. Make sure that the meter is re-set when you set off – the ride should not cost more than 20 Euros.

Checking in: we checked in early - the room was not ready, however the reception staff provided us with complimentary drinks at the bar while we were waiting. Reception staff were generally friendly and helpful but don’t always assume they are going to fully understand you and respond if you only speak English.

Overall impression: good quality and attention to design detail however some expectations that you might have about 4 star hotel service might not be met, i.e. small elevator, lack of bath robes, no fridge in the room, and limited selection at breakfast (scrambled eggs were particularly to be avoided!) The evening turn-down service was variable.

Room: we were upgraded on arrival, however the room was still small and the white walls were scuffed and in need of a coat of fresh paint. The room had floor-to-ceiling windows looking on to a very quiet street, wide-screen plasma tv, complimentary mineral water, free wireless internet access and a direct phone line – all of these added to the overall experience and helped to compensate for the size of the room.

The bathroom was spacious and impressive at first sight. It had a freestanding bath, bidet, sink with a lighted mirror and a wet-room shower with timber-slatted floors throughout. In design terms, it was particularly impressive with large circular feature window into the bedroom. However, the downsides were that the wardrobe/storage area was in the bathroom so only one person could use it at a time; the shower also left the whole of the bathroom floor wet and the floor was slow to dry.

We found Rimini a good venue for exploring surrounding historic towns including Republic of San Marino (bus link to San Marino was cheap and easy to use) and for the quality of its shopping. However, there is a stark contrast between the attractive but small historic centre of Rimini and the overcrowded communal atmosphere of the seafront. In our view, hotel Duomo provides a very good base for exploring the best of the town and surrounding areas.

PS: there’s a clear lack of restaurants in Rimini (apart from ubiquitous pizza-places and ‘english-spoken-fish-and-chips-served’ junk-food/beer outlets in the main tourist areas). We tried several sea-food restaurants located around Rimini Marina –fairly disappointing – Michelin stars and Rimini are generally worlds apart; however, we managed to find a wonderful restaurant: Ottoemezzo dinner (via Beccadelli 5) – interiors are refreshing; food – beautifully served and…yes, yummy! Staff are elegant, friendly and are there to help and make you feel special rather than give local-(ish) attitude and bad service! Highly recommended!

Rooms are supposedly high fashion by some designer. That translates into 3/4 of the room being the bathroom with a bunch of fancy features that do not work (including the lights). They had no internet for 3 days at least, which they failed to tell us when we were checking in.

I had been at the hotel about10 years ago and wanted my wife to see it. I was not disappointed. It is still futuristic and very well kept From the lobby to the bathrooms everything, shapes and colors, transport you to a different world.

I have stayed in the DuoMo with my wife over the weekend.

The hotel wants to be stylish and modern and one has to say it worked out well.
The DuoMo is located in the center of Rimini - an awesome location!

You can get right to the front of the hotel by car (yes, enter the narrow street), but remember that the hotel is in the limited traffic zone of Rimini (Varco). You need to get a permit from the hotel to enter otherwise a fine will hit you!
The distance to the beaches is not close, It will take you 15-20 minutes walking.

+ Everything is working (good airco and comfy beds) and in acceptable condition.
+ Stylish and modern environment.
+ Awesome position in the center of Rimini.
+ Awesome breakfast with nice service staff.
+ Pet friendly. Our Iggy loved it, too.
+ Thanks Carmelo for the awesome aperitivo on Sunday afternoon! Grayie mille!
+ Thanks Yuri for stowing away our car (parking is 15 EUR per day)!

- Only one elevator for the hotel which is also pretty tight... not enough!
- No separate shower box. If you shower the whole bathroom is under water soaking.
- Not enough light in the bathroom (very dim).
- Not enough plugs in the room.
- Room 215 rather small! Take a bigger room ... see the plan attached to this mail

All in all we had a great week-end and would consider coming back.

So it looks great - all chrome and steel and hard colors but you do not want to stay here...ever!

The room and hotel are all design.......and clearly the designer (Ron Arad?) has never stayed in a hotel in his or her life...ever!

1) The lights are impossible to control - my several colleagues who stayed the same night all complained that they could not get the lights on or or off or down or up.....and half of our light bulbs flickered so much I almost had an acid flash back...and this was 30 seconds after entering the room. Then we discover several light bulbs are burned out - they do not replace them.

2) Then we go in the bathroom - where do you put your toiletries kit....on the floor! There is no shelf space - this is the first time I have ever had so little shelf space that my toiletries kit went on the floor - very sanitary! Then of course the shower has no curtain and showers all over the toilet and your toiletries kit.

3) There are no closets! There is a clear plexiglass door that slides back and forth to open either the bathroom or the hangers...but it is hard to see with the abominable lighting and so numerous times either my wife or I walk slam into plexiglass because the one or other of us has slid the door one way or the other. You cannot see it and so slam straight into it. Brilliant design - as I said Ron Arad has never stayed in a hotel..clearly.

The internet works great and the bed was wonderful but do not go near this place with a barge pole - you might hurt yourself.

Dear Chris, we are very sorry to read that your experience at duoMo Hotel was not the one you expected. We know that sometimes the light system can be tricky, this is why we put a fast directory with simple instructions to follow in order to use them. Design is not always synonym of simplicity, but we would really like you to stay at duoMo Hotel again, so you could change your mind about it! We remain at your disposal hoping to welcome you again. Best regards.

The hotel is located in a pedestrian area in the very downtown. So it is fantastic to explore Rimini by walking. If one drives is really complicated. We did not know that( maybe a mistake of “ booking”?) and moreover it was during the holiday season, so arriving to the hotel was a nightmare. It would have been nice to get an e- mail from the hotel telling us about the streets closed to the traffic.
We wanted to visit nearby places during our stay but we just went to San Marino and decided to stay in Rimini the next days since driving was so difficult.
It is a design hotel. So the reception, the breakfast room ;which works as a bar and restaurant as well, are very nice.
About the room... it is different.
The bathroom is big and nice to see but not really practical. The shower is in front of the toilet and sink and does not have any glass separating the area. So when one takes a shower everything gets wet which of course is very unpleasant.
The bedroom area is quite small. There is little place for one’s things. There is only one mirror in the bathroom and a placard is inside the bathroom too? Not very convenient in my opinion.
About the minibar located outside the room, I would not have problem, but it might happen that one wants to drink something late at night... anyway...
The service in the reception was just ok, the ladies in the breakfast area were nice and helpful and the cleaning ladies did a good job, but the second day we arrive about four in the afternoon to rest a little bit and the room was still not ready.
The breakfast was very good.
So pros and cons...
