Welcome to the Grand Hotel Rimini, welcome to charm! The Grand Hotel Rimini, the five star deluxe hotel which has always been considered as the symbol of "La Dolce Vita" on the Adriatic Riviera, is a magnificent building with more than a 100 years history. Inaugurated in 1908, a national monument since 1984, the Grand Hotel Rimini has always welcome a large number of celebrities: the tenor Caruso, the Duce Mussolini, Gorbatchev, Bush Senior, Federico Fellini and his wife Giulietta Masina, Lady Diana, Christian Barnard, Tony Blair, Sharon Stone, Albert of Monaco, Edward of Windsor and the Dalai Lama, just to mention a few. With the taking over of the Batani family in 2007, major renovation works have been immediately started following the criteria imposed by the Italian Ministery of Fine Arts and today the Grand Hotel Rimini is back to its ancient splendour, especially the mythical Liberty facade. New, precious materials such as travertine, onyx and white marbles from northern Italy beautifully combine with the renovated original parquet flooring and Venetian flooring in the ancient ballrooms, in a beautiful harmony between old and new, history and present time. The ambitious project will be completed with the setting of the famous domes that went destroyed during the terrible fire that broke out in July 1920.The Grand Hotel Rimini is defined by its guests as a "magnificent oasis of tranquility." It is surrounded by a luxuriant garden of centennial pine trees, olive trees and flowers and stands just a few steps away from the private beach of golden sand, with a kids’ swimming-pool, restaurant-bar and a wellness centre, open in summer time.At just one kilometre from the hotel, the historical centre of Rimini is the heart of luxury shopping and night life. Culture and the arts are also very well represented thanks to major international art exhibitions organized every year inside Castelsismondo, the several castles dating back to the Malatesta seigniory (1500) and extraordinary Roman remains.High oeno-gastronomy is the specialty of the house. The hotel’s ancient ball rooms are the beautiful setting to "La Dolce Vita" restaurant where the Chef Claudio Di Bernardo and his brigade are proud to welcome you. Simple, natural and wholesome qualify the chef’s strong passion for good cuisine. In summertime, dinner is served on the magnificent terrace overlooking the sea and the gardens. The atmosphere is unique: the gentle sea breeze, the excellent cuisine, the elegant orchestra playing romantic music on the backdrop of the famous Liberty facade... Just like one of the famous scenes from Amarcord by the great film-maker Federico Fellini!

What to say? Perfetto! The Grand Hotel in Rimini was on my to do list since several years but never had the opportunity to come. Rimini in winter is very quiet but you can appreciate the walks on the beach, the old town, the nearby villages and of course the excellent cuisine! The hotel is the best in town and it is one of those special places that combine history, old world elegance, comfort. We were greeted by Giampaolo and Lubi (hope it’s written like that), escorted to our beautiful room (guess we were upgraded) in a friendly and professional way…a good start. The room was beautiful, elegantly appointed with original antiques; the bathroom very spacious with a jacuzzi bathtub (a bit difficult to use). It was night but the following morning we could enjoy the nice view on the Fellini Park and the sea from our big terrace and a second romantic balcony. Breakfast was a delight, perhaps one of the best we have ever seen, with lot of choice of extreme quality; service again was friendly but very professional (special mention for Dalida, a true maîtresse de maison, and Cristina). We had dinner once in the restaurant and it was very pleasant. Food was elegant and the desserts excellent! The gardens were immaculate as well as the housekeeping of the whole property. Cleaning levels at the highest standards. I work in a hotel and I am a very difficult guest lol. When we travel, I like to choose the hotels…it doesn’t matter the category, I like hotels that are “kept” with attention to the little things. Here everything was perfect! Last but not least: in winter rates are very affordable. So, if you want to feel like the previous illustrious guests, do not hesitate!

This hotel is beautiful and the breakfast is incredible. The gym is horrible with 2 items and you need to make reservations to use it. The spa is wonderful. I reserved an hour with a spa treatment. The reason I scored this place a 3 star on service is because the front desk staff are unfriendly and not welcoming. It is a 5 star hotel so they emulate the stuffiness of this level hotel. I will not return here because of that. They never asked how they could assist us nor asked how our stay was. Very cold people. However, the breakfast staff are warm and friendly as are the spa people. You would think you would put your best people at the front desk, but they did not.

Iconic Rimini hotel. We loved the historic exterior and public areas, especially the Fellini lounge. The gardens are beautiful and the pool area was relaxing, if rather small given the size of the hotel. Breakfast was excellent. On the negative side, the bedroom had a period charm but the furniture was old and not in an antique way. There was also a lot of ambient noise from the fridge which we disconnected at night and the AC, which we never managed to shut down. The bathroom in particular could do with a serious refurb. The spa looked good but we weren't going to pay Eur 80 per person just to use the sauna and sit by the indoor pool. There is a private beach but charging up to Eur 95 for loungers is a steep extra - that said, the room rate was reasonable. Service was polite but not exceptional. On the whole, we enjoyed the hotel but it is teetering on the edge of looking tired, some major investment will be necessary sooner rather than later.

Excellent hotel with excellent service. We stayed there with a pet, and had no issues. The employees went above and beyond to take care of guests. We only stayed there one night, but the experience was wonderful. We had the room with a beautiful view. The courtyard is amazing, extremely clean and inviting. The location of the property is right at the beginning of the promenade, so it made the walk very convenient. The rooms are spacious and very well appointed, clean and comfortable, with very comfortable beds and a comfortable bathroom with shower. Breakfast choices were ample and excellent. We truly enjoyed our stay at this property and will be back.

They don't care about guest when they have a function ! Tonight we've been dumped in a room that's off the main dining room. The trouble is it's too hot and, actually, too close to the function because the music is ridiculously load. We can't hear ourselves. They should have made room for guests in another room.

There is absolutely everything one needs or desires, in this luxury, legendary, refined, classy and beautiful hotel, where very many famous people stayed, especially Federico Fellinni, born and buried in Rimini. I must insist on the fact that the breakfast and dinner (5 nights) were of a very high quality and very tasty, presented very artistically. A big bravo to the chef and to the restaurant staff equally for their professionalism and excellent service. Not to forget the cleaning ladies, who are regularly forgotten. However, arrival was disappointing. The reception area and the entrance to the hotel were packed with people, because it was (the last day of) a conference, no ramp near the entrance stairs to help with our heavy suitcases and nobody around to help us. Then a problem with half board. But all this was solved rapidly and efficiently, as well as another problem during the week, which was dealt with immediately by the reception staff. With an authentic smile and kindness. And once the hotel was no longer filled with businessmen and women, there is indeed a valet and a doorman present to assist you. The staff is top notch, truly at your service. The furniture, decor, restaurants and meals were exquisite and refined. The room, ditto. Wifi, slippers, bathroom robes, a safe, delicious smelling toiletries, large wall mounted TV, very close to shops, the city center, (there are 2, one further on and bigger) bars and restaurants. Not so exquisite: You have to ask for a kettle with tea bags, no daily bottled water, lots of receptions, galas etc, which resulted in the fact that we only knew when we came down for dinner, in which room we were going to dine, (and the restaurant staff had to ask at the reception where we were supposed to dine) lots of noise (ultra loud music) coming from the bars near the beach right in front of the room until 3am (but the hotel offered us another room without noise). I asked for an extra blanket because I thought that a simple sheet was not enough for the night. Due to the storm, we did not use the pool or the hotel’s deck chairs on the beach, (not free I was told)

Grand Hotel di Rimini It is difficult to start a review of a hotel which is something of a legend in its own lunchtime, and, in many ways this is a difficult hotel to review. It is certainly grand, and it is certainly in Rimini. That much is incontestable. The rest is such a mixture of the amazingly good with stuff that needs getting used to that, at first, we found it difficult to make our minds up whether we loved it or hated it. First the good bits - Reception - Couldn’t be faulted, really. They were obviously expecting us, they put up with our halting Italian and even asked whether we preferred to continue in Italian or English, and were absolutely charming throughout. And they upgraded us. What more could one ask. They showed us to the room, brought our luggage up, and supplied all the extras and information we asked for rapidly and cheerfully. Location - Across the road from the beach, with umpteen restaurants, bars and shops within easy walking distance, and a 15-20 minute walk to the old town and all its historic sights. Could hardly be bettered, except that it has been. How fantastic it must have been before the new promenade was built, when the gardens stretched right down to the beach. Accommodation. Our junior suite was spacious and comfortable, or as comfortable as could be expected with antique furniture and fittings. We actually had a separate sitting room, which would have made it into a full suite in most hotels. It had its idiosyncrasies and ennuis, however, of which more hereafter. Food - I am not given to using extravagant hyperbole, such as ‘a breakfast to die for’, but in this case I am almost tempted to make an exception. I do not believe I have ever seen such an amazing buffet, with such a wide choice of everything you would expect and lots of things you wouldn’t. Regular readers of my reviews will know that I rate breakfast primarily on the muesli and the coffee. Here they offer a choice of 3 different mueslis, with a range of fruit and nuts to customise them to your choice. They also have the ubiquitous granola, and just about every cereal ever produced except Grape Nuts. Their cappuccino was the best I have ever tasted, even in Italy, and came piping hot, which is almost impossible to find anywhere. Commendations for that alone. Facilites - Just about everything you would want. The safe worked in the room, once I got the hang of it, and was just big enough to get my laptop in. The wifi is free, and works well, although logging in in the first place is far from straightforward. You need a phone with mobile data activated to receive an email with a code to enter when first logging in on your device. If you try to log in on a laptop first, it won’t work, because you can’t pick up the email until you’re logged in, and you can’t log in until you have picked up the email. The outdoor pool looked very tempting, but it was roped off and not open yet. We don’t go in for spas, so I can’t comment on that. The garden is beautiful, and immaculately maintained, and houses everything you would want in it. Service - Absolutely first class, from beginning to end. Possibly too overdone, even. Now for the bits which took some getting used to. There were no tea or coffee making facilities in the room. They brought a kettle and a supply of teabags etc. instantly when we asked, but if you didn’t know you might be tempted to do without. There was no drinking water provided in the room when we arrived, let alone topped up daily. For this class of hotel that is a poor show. We are used to turn down services where the maid comes in the evening to turn the sheets down and check whether you need anything. We are not used to them barging in at ten o’clock at night, however, nor can we see the point of their doing so if all they have to offer is clean sheets and towels. If you haven’t got those by that time of night then there is something seriously wrong. Their being able to barge in is another annoyance. There was no way to secure the door onto the corridor, no internal bar or catch, no chain or anything like that. We took to moving an armchair in front of the door after the maid entered without waiting for permission after we had just come out of the shower and only had towels round us. The shower cubicle was tiny, with a door that didn’t close properly, and a rainfall head that offered the usual choices of too hot or too cold. It didn’t offer the usual choices of trickle or deluge, but only the first. Conclusion Disappointingly just short of perfection, which could so easily be obtained. In the end, however, the question that needs answering is ‘would we stay there again?’. The answer is a resounding yes. We would come back every year, if only Rimini were not so tediously difficult to get to from the UK these days. Fifty years ago there were flights to Rimini airport all over the place, but now there is only one, from Stanstead, which is completely useless unless you live in the southeast. Is it perfect? Not quite. Is it worth a try? Yes. Yes, yes.

The hotel is simply magnificent. Built in 1908 is still maintains it grandeur. Our suite 216 was a beautiful room overlooking the front gardens and Adriatic Sea. There were at least two large parties while we stayed and we not disturbed in any way. We had dinner the first night in the hotel and it was delightful. The people at the front desk were excellent, from helping us connect to the internet and restaurant recommendations, which by the way were great. The only reason I did not give the Grand an excellent review was housekeeping. One day we came back at 2:30 pm an room not done. Items were not replenished , coffee service was also not taken care of.
